Engine Management System light

........just came on today :(
Can anyone help with diagnosis? Hate when it comes on, panic about what it could be and the cost!
I'm about 7 miles South West of Bath. Any help would be enormously appreciated!

Hi Hannah

I'd recommend you have a VagCom scan as there could be many reasons for the light coming on.

Hi Hannah, I find my engine managment system does come on every three months or so, but on its 'own' its nothing to worry about!! my car is a 2001 petrol model, each time it happend just leave alone (if no other displays occurs, and no problems appear), like you i paid to have a diagnostic at £25 a time done to find what fault it was, both times it came up as ERG valve, this is a known problem fault, the valve becomes sticky after period of time ie 2/3 years, the EMS usually disapears from display after 4/5 days.I have also been informed that this item is not really important in the scheme of things, if you are still not sure do get a scan done!, last time i priced up a new ERG valve they said about £130 for it plus £40/50 for fitting same,

Thanks so much for the feedback! Luckily found out one of my friends has the kit to scan it (thanks to the power of Facebook!) and he's also a mechanic so hopefully he'll be able to tell me what the fault is and whether it's serious!
Taking it over tonight so fingers crossed!
Last time I took it to Audi and it was the oxygen emission sensor - £220!
