Engine turning but no start

Just finished work & 1.4tdi 90 won't start. Engine turns fine but now have flashing glow plug. No scanner with me so unable to check. Car always started 1st touch of starter previously.
Tank over 3/4 full.
Flashing glow plug all seems to point to brake light switch in posts I've found but none mention car not starting.
Will be able to scan at weekend once got home but was hopeful that somebody may have had this & be able to help. Ta, Peter.

I see no reason at all that the brake light switch would cause a no start situation.
My guess would be the crankshaft sensor but its a real code scan needed first!

Is the timing belt in good order?

Thanks for reply, the timing belt was replaced 7k ago so don't believe it would have gone. Car driving daily with no issues until today. Managed brake light check & all 3 working.
I will be able to scan it at weekend when I get home to pick up scanner.

Scan done & code P0727 is only one, engine speed input circuit no signal. So looks to be crankshaft sensor.
Will post reply when problem rectified. Looks like a good guess Howey.

Had to get lucky eventually!
Make sure wiring is all good too!

A good indication of crankshaft sensor failure is the rev counter not moving when engine is cranking. It's driven from the crankshaft sensor.
Bit late here, but might help someone in future.
