Engine undertray

Quick question - I've haven't got round to fitting my new undertray yet (my car came without one) but I have bought all the required fixings based on the parts list in post #30 above. Amongst the many fixings it lists 6-off Grip Pins, P/N 8D0 805 121, can anyone tell me which positions the grip pins are fitted in - its not clear from the diagram which are the grip pins and which are the panel screws.

Thanks for that, but it seems to contradict the exploded view and parts list in the earlier post. That says use 6 grip pins and 10 panel screws whereas the above post says use 12 panel screws. I can see the sense in using the grip pins - I have them on my S4 under tray and they lock in half a turn which makes it quicker and easier to fit the tray. If no one has any other advice I think I will use the grip pins on the front 3 screws and on the rear 3 to hold the tray in place while I fit the other screws.

To be honest, the undertray has so many potential fixings I'm sure that they aren't all necessary. So long as you have the 2 10 mm nuts and a decent amount of screws you'll be fine.

On mine some of the plastic loops had split - particularly the front - where the precious owner had just gaffer taped it into place. I epoxied washers to the undertray to fix it or Darren (Tintin) did a more elegant fix with plastic welding (cable ties and soldering iron)

I put in an order a couple of weeks ago for the diesel version of the undertray ( the petrol version is not available). The cost was about £113 in total (€83 shipping).

But I just got an email from teile.com advising that the shipping would be much more than €83..

I was just about to send the underbody panelling you ordered. Unfortunately it is so big that it can only be sent in a package that is 144x 22 x 76cm. Since it is now also oversized, the cheapest shipping would be 246€. I was shocked myself. I can't send it for 86e. I can only apologise for that but no one could have known in advance that the price would be so high. I assume that it is then also for you much too high and then the order should be cancelled or. Please send me feedback.

At that price it would be cheaper to fly over and bring it myself.

Anyone have other sources for a good (ideally petrol version) undertray?

The thing is it’s in a big big box ? I ordered a diesel one several years ago from Germany that’s what your paying for freight .but even then total cost was well under £100 delivered .. So maybe this is something to do with Brexit cost,s no idea...I have it stored away as we run 3 tdis ..so I have built up a few spares ..?
This is an old picture off this forum but it shows you the size of the box..

I've now ordered one from eBay
..again from a German supplier. This time the postage is charged at £20....just waiting now for the message saying they calculated the delivery charge wrong and it's £200

Hi Stevie,

I ordered mine last week from my local Audi dealer and it was £55.

It arrived within a few days and was fitted at the weekend.

Have you tried ringing round Audi dealers? The first one I rang said they couldn't get it, but the second one was able to (no idea how that works)

Ben

That sounds like a far better option! I had got the impression that they would be unobtainable or extremely expensive from the dealerships. It just goes to show. I will try my local dealership - which does the servicing anyway.

Yes the dealers should be able to still get an undertray. Be aware not all dealers are created equal. Some will help you others can not be bothered as the cars is too old for them a.k.a. do not know what it is.
Strange story here but when I was changing one of my other cars I was in a dealership looking at my next car and popped into the parts department to buy an A2 spare part. Parts guy could not have been more unhelpful, until he walked into the showroom and saw me negotiating with the salesman. Came over and he made a joke about me wanting A2 parts as he thought I was just time wasting. Salesman knew what an A2 was and got irate with the parts guy who turned red and apologised to me. At this point I turned around and neither have had any sales off me from that day to now. Found a better dealer and they are very helpful to me and have now bought several new cars from them....

I’m lucky then as my parts guy in the main agents is another fisherman always helpful as they all should be ...bl—dy snobs ..?

Lucky Bu@@er. I know that I am not alone here in saying the level of helpfulness greatly varies in the dealerships. Having bought new Audis frequently since 1996 I have seen a few myself.... and Both Audi UK and Audi Germany got to hear about them!

Think yourselves lucky its not Pork! ( I was going to throw mine as I dont use it, but have kept it in the loft now just in case! )
