Hey people long story short......

bought a persian blue Audi A2 with open sky and air con etc its a 51 plate but a 2002 model last April, first few months off to a great start love my car..... however since November the amber engine management light has been coming on........ my mechanic on forst diagnostic found a misfire problem he turned it off and car ran well for a few weeks then same problem so we changed coil 3.
It ran for a few months then the same thing happened twice in one month misfire - so we changed old spark plugs and then HT leads. The car sounds and runs fine when the light is out but this engine light coming on is really frustrating as it cuts the power- I dont work yet but I do have to take my son to hospital quite regularly and this is a pain so because of my need for reliability I am in fact going to get this car fixed and sell it i'm gutted as its in great condition :(

Has anyone got any ideas ? we have contacted Audi uk who have offered a free diagnostics however I just thought I would see if anyone had any ideas?

Hi Emma,

As you're in Manchester, I'd suggest taking the car to Awesome. They're a VW/Audi specialist near Irlam. They're extremely skilled, honest and service-orientated. I'm sure they'll be able to properly diagnose and fix the problem.
If I were you, I would get your A2 fixed and keep it. Every car will need something repairing from time to time and the A2's build quality is much better than anything else you're likely to get of a similar size or for similar money.

All the best,

Tom

could possibly be the fuel pump. I had a nightmare with similar issues and it ended up being the pump. Ive since had issues with coils but since replaced with the upgraded packs and its been fine. The only way to get a proper diagnosis is to use VAGcom which requires going to a dealer (as far as i know). Fortunately i knew someone who worked at Audi. Good luck but keep faith.

This is absolutely not true. Decent garages, and particularly specialist garages, will have all the diagnostic systems that the dealers do. Indeed, many owners club members have the gear to do 99% of what the garages can do. Somewhere like Awesome will deliver beyond what you can expect from a dealership, but also at a lower cost.

Cheers,

Tom

oh, and get someone to check your earthing points, especially the one in the engine bay.

There is no limp-home on a petrol, so if the light means "less power" you have an interesting problem. Get it scanned, post the logs. Or go over to Mike (Skipton on here) to get it looked over....

Thanks everyone for your help as suspected there is no problem Audi have serviced and run diagnostics and given an hours free labour checking car over and its absolutely fine so goodness knows why the light kept coming on?
We are selling it now anyway so if you know of anyone who is on the look out for a A2 please let them know :)

We were going to sell anyway as it only has two seats in the back and our son is disabled so we need a bigger car to transport all the things that go with our journeys....

I love the A2 its a lovely member of the A2 family .

Your issue sounded 100% coil pack related the ecu cuts the power when one of them goes and the engine gets really lumpy - Audi recomends you have all the leads changed at once even if a single lead has given up the ghost. Very frustrating it happens to my Dads A4 periodically (18 - 24 months)

Hi there thanks its had new leads and coils, it's running fine now and Audi have give a clear diagnostics so it's good to go! I live the car and I'll be sad to see it go but our new car gives us the much desired space we need.

Thanks
Emma
