Engine Warning Light

I have had a warning light on for a few weeks. Took it into my local garage. Was told the Oxygen sensor had gone. They repaired it, hey presto - no light... then 3 minutes later on an open road, put my foot down - light back on...

Was charged £240 for this too :(

Car is a 2001 1.4se petrol

What does the community think is my next step?

Very Angry and grumpy for Easter holidays now...

I would go back to the garage and ask for a free scan to make sure it's not the same thing.

I hodeida the rest of the weekend goes better for you.

Cheers
David

Ok - firstly, did the garage do an ECU check to get error codes before they did the lambda change?
Secondly, check that they actually changed the lambda, and if they did that they used a genuine Audi one with the correct plug. We've had stories on here of garages using a generic one and cutting in the wiring, which of course rapidly fails.
Thirdly, get them to scan the ECU again to check what error code is reporting now - it could be something different, but if it's still saying lambda, throw the book at them until they fix it.

Codes

I took it back in today...

The garage were really informative and helpful and I stayed with the car while the mechanics stripped the EGR value dow and gave it a clean. the Mechanic said that this looked to be the problem as it was not clicking and looked to be jammed open.

They ran a diagnostic for free... codes that were showing were...

16785 - EGR insufficient flow
16525 - O2 Sensor

they fitted a genuine replacement part first time round, and did not solder the old plug on an after market one.

So it looks like the EGR valve is the problem - unless there are any other things i should know.

Thanks

Engine managment light.

Hi KEV
The first thing to have done is the 'throttle chamber' cleaned out, this is a common fault on the A2 Petrol cars, and as they get older (The Cars) the more gunge etc gets into this chamber! this is not a costly option so should be first on list. I have just spent over £600.00 + and i wish someone had informed me of this before hand, could have saved a lot of dosh, of course this may not cure the problem you have, just start working your way through ie; cheapest first, working your way upwards (money wise), best of luck,
Cheers ALAN,
