EV conversion - What to do with the engine? (1.6 FSI)

If you look at my previous comments you'll see I've chipped in on EV conversions of A2s, and that's not what I this thread is for, to discuss the merits, but the practicalities of such a conversion.

I'm psyching myself up to pull the trigger on converting my own. One big obstacle around that is what to do with the engine, etc?

I was wondering what kind of demand there is for a 105k mi 1.6 FSI that I would suggest is solid, but needs a little TLC (clean intake, fix oil leak around filler pipe), which should be easier when out of the car.

I'll be getting rid of the gearbox and exhaust as well. Should I bundle it, should I break it and scrap what's left? Should I try cleaning it up whilst out? What kind of demand is there?

I figured asking on this forum would get the best results and opinions.

Anyone with knowledge of pallet shipping?

Anyone done this before and what did you do with the ICE part of the car?

Remember if you'd like to discuss if it's blasphemy removing a 1.6 FSI, start a different post, I'll happily chip in :)

I should think someone might have the engine off your hands for a project, it's still got at least 50k miles left in it if it's good overall. Following a recent instance of cat theft, member @AJ-FSI might be interested in the entire exhaust, but I'm sure the cat section from the flexi backwards would be of value to someone.

Just to remind everyone, this is not a Market advert, so prices and offers are not to be posted on this thread. Mark, if you go ahead with the conversion, you'll need to start a thread in the Market for any discarded items you want to offer to the A2 community - and prices must be stated for all.

Totally, all theoretical at present and was going to mention this isn't for the market place just yet, it's still in the car and an Engine lift needs hiring and a pallet finding, and probably the nicer weather of next year too :)

Whatever I get back would be nice, but it's the practicalities for here. I've obviously looked at eBay and the wildly varying prices on there.

Part of the question is around demand and how long it would take to shift. I doubt I'd be allowed by the OH to have it on the drive too long, nor, knowing my estate, would it last too long either.

Do you even keep the oil in?

Interesting to know the results of this, I really couldn't imagine how anyone would want an FSI even if it was a bit lower in millage. At least for use in a car.

The only reason I personally would buy an FSI is so I could take it apart and learn how it works as a hobby. Which I think sounds great fun!

Good luck on your project!
