EWQ Gearbox Replacement - Help Please

The car went in for a cam belt change on Friday, and to cut a long story short, they also have discovered that the bearing on the diff has gone, so a new box is recommended.

This will be the fourth, but before I hit ebay, where I've had a bad experience in the past, does anyone have, or know of, a good EWQ gearbox with known provenance, for sale?

I intend to keep the old one and get it refurbished; it was a factory fresh geniune Audi replacement about five years ago, IIRC.

Fourth gearbox, what are you doing to them?! Just kidding, what mileage age are you on now? If I recall correctly you've had relatively little trouble considering the intergalactic journey your lovely A2 has been on. :)

Perhaps it's worth fitting an MYP 6 speed box? Especially if you are doing mostly motorway mileage. Likely to find a lower mileage one then.

My main issue is that this is my only car, so I need to keep it simple as far as maintenance is concerned. The first issue is to get a replacement box in ASAP, and then perhaps look at mods. I'll admit a six speed is attractive, but unless it's a drop-in replacement, it's not going to work for me just now.

(The second one was second hand and didn't last very long - maybe 18 months. Currently on 546k, per my signature).

From memory some people have been using Stealth Racing as a very reputable company for a long time, although that's quite a trek for you as they're in Warwickshire.

There’s a ewq gearbox on eBay item number 123475031801. No mention of mileage covered but very cheap, and local to me so i can collect and store if you decide to buy.
Worth messaging to find out history

I have an EWQ gearbox going spare. It's the one I've removed from my car. No problems with synchro on 3rd (or any of the other gears), no leeks from shaft seals. 118k miles when removed and guaranteed to be the 'box originally fitted to the car (one owner until I bought it last year, FSH, early 2001 model). But I think I'm a bit far from @Imola Yellow to be of interest. I've also got the LUK clutch assy from the car, complete with the release arm and possibly the release bearing. The clutch has still got quite a lot of wear left in it - I only replaced it because I was dropping the 'box and didn't know what condition it would be in.

Just to round this off, the gearbox & a new clutch were fitted on Friday, and so far all is well. Several symptoms have gone away, so now the remaining ones should be clearer! Like finding which wheel bearing is on its way out.
