Exhaust Recommendations ?

What are A2 Owners doing for replacement Exhaust Systems these days please ? Our 2003 1.4 SE Petrol goes through Non Genuine Catalytic Converters in just over the time it takes for their Warranty to Expire. Rob at WOM Automotive has been looking for a good complete used Genuine Exhaust System for us over the last 6 Months. Nothing doing. It’s just the Catalytic Converters that are really the problem although other new but non genuine sections of the Exhaust System have failed to impress. Sarge once offered to send me a complete Genuine Audi system cut up on a Pallett. That was years ago though.

Are there any recommended suppliers and fitters of Stainless Steel Systems. What do they do about the Catalytic Converters, especially the Front Manifold / Catalytic Converter please ?

Regards,

Steve U.

The one on Adams car came from ECP and needed welding after 18 months, but apart from that its been on the car for three years with no issues. His is a 1.4i BBY, but he does do some long trips to uni, that may help.

I have fitted a new system 1.5 years ago after I have failed the MOT. HJS "Blue Angel" catalytic converters ("96 11 4081", "96 11 4204"), and IMASAF silencers ("13.01.46" and "13.01.47"). This setup seems to be working fine. 1.4 BBY.

Buna ziua! Daca am codul p 0420 ...eficienta catalizator sub limita la motorul 1.4 AUA, avand doua catalizatoare de unde stiu care este defect? Multumesc!

Any NEW Exhaust Recommendations please ? Its Blowing somewhere again. Not looked underneath yet.

All we ever seem to be able to get are " Klarius " replacement Exhaust Parts which seem to be rubbish. There must be something better out there, isn`t there ?

2003 1.4 SE Petrol by the way.

Regards,

Steve U

Jack the car up first and see what's going on underneath. It might be the flex pipe, but better check it first. You could even half-park on a higher sidewalk to go under the car.

No luck with Exhaust Parts then ? Took it to Westgate Tyres Morecambe yesterday about 5 O`Clock. Had a look. Said Pipe was gone just in front of Centre Silencer. They could weld a new Box in this afternoon. Unfortunately it went completely on the way home in the dark, so it was hanging down on the road. Tried to tie it up this morning to drive it back to Westgate this afternoon. Ended up taking the whole section off to stop any further road damage. Its going to be a very noisy, unsilenced drive back there in a mo !

Picked A2 up this afternoon with new Custom Made Stainless Centre Section Fitted. £150 Stainless Steel “ Guaranteed for Life “. Should have warned them we’ve had this A2 since 2004 when it was a 12 Month old 9000 mile ex demo / sales car. So we’ve had it 18 years. Will the Lifetime Warranty last another 18 years ?

Steve U

Depends on what is meant by "Guaranteed for Life", whether for exhaust or vehicle. The former is worthless/meaningless, the second is questionable at best. Anyway, stainless is a good choice. A2 and VW 1.2Tdi exhausts were stainless (304 probably) and I never had any problems. They allowed thinner material and therefore saved weight. There's also little or no sulphur in fuel now, so corrosion should no longer be a problem, unless you do a lot of short journeys.
