External DAB aerial on OSS roof

Is there any chance of fitting near the top of the windscreen?
Will be looking into this tomorrow, I also have an auto dimming rear view mirror of a Mk5 golf to fit, so will be making some sort of trim panel to attach to the windscreen from the head lining to the rear view mirror attachment point, may be able to incorporate the DAB aerial mount pickup into this - fingers crossed

I was idly contemplating this today - how is the boot spoiler mounted to the car and would it be possible to pass an aerial cable (or cables) through the bolt holes, if there are any?

As far as I understand the spoiler is bonded to the glass, no holes are present in the glass

I have made some progress with mounting the aerial on the windscreen very top centre. Unfortunately I have the flu at the moment so all progress as alted. However what I have worked out is it is possible to mount the aerial, but only just, as it needs to be right at the top of the screen else the wiper stroke will hit the aerial

more info and pictures to follow in due course

Cheers,
Paul

Paul,

We fitted the exact same aerial to ours at the weekend, it is possible:

Some more pictures of the aerial:

Underneath the rear OSS panel:

I sealed around the base with silicone with fairy liquid solution to smooth the sealant.

All looks very OEM to me.

I fitted mine to the top centre of the windscreen and hide the aerial receiver(black box) under a 3D printed cover that goes from the head lining to the rear view mirror stem. It also hides the cable for the auto dimming mirror
Again looks very oem

Great that there is an alternative mounting for oss owners
Cheers

Bet that was fun, cutting through the roof panel?!

Have you got a shot of the aerial with the tailgate open?

I think it looks like a non-contact aerial. A pickup up on either side of the glass with induction. I could be wrong though.

I only had to cut through the steel which is bonded to the glass, the aerial does not need to go through the glass.
I’ll get a picture tomorrow

If I'm honest the reception on this aerial isn't as good as i expected in situ. Yes it's better than the internal stick on aerial I got with the dab but not brilliant.

Mounted in top left corner of windscreen and definitely loses something through the glass for me... sunband may be?

For info I think this the same dab aerial as deproman fitted.

Exactly how good is DAB reception when on the move, please?

David
Hi Dave,
I mounted this DAB aerial to the top centre of the windscreen, I am using a 'Pure Drive' DAB unit and the reception around the flyde coast is absolutely excellent, I have never heard any DAB station drop out, and most if not all have a full set of bars on the signal strength
Not sure how much of this is down to the aerial or the Pure unit, but the combination is certainly a winner.
I changed my head unit a couple of weeks ago and Halfords gave me the wrong one, it was a Pioneer DAB unit, so I tried it and only got 11 stations with the already mounted DAB aerial, I returned the head unit to Halfords and got the correct one (which is not DAB) and hooked up the 'Pure Drive' DAB using the same DAB aerial, now I get 56 stations and all never drop out

It was not cheap at £35, but does the job so well, I cannot recommend it enough, or the PURE dab units for that matter

Cheers,
Paul

I suspect it may be the no name unit I've got thats not great with reception Paul - I dont think I'll be changing it any time soon though!!

I have DVB-T fitted to my A2. I also live in a (relatively) poor reception area on the North Wales coast. So this was my planned solution to improve the signal. Externally on the B-pillar there are two black aluminium covers. If they are removed you will find that there is a reasonable amount of space underneath. I was going to design two DVB-T pivoting aerials that could be swung upwards on either side of the car. When not in use (or when using a car-wash) , they could be swung downwards. Now I would have also re-designed the B-pillar cover, making it hinged. Obviously there would have to be an outward bulge to the new cover. I would have to have investigated the end result to ascertain the visual impact of the finished design. Anything detrimental and I would have just reverted to the original B-pillar design. I simply love a challenge!

I have a "Media-DAB unit installed in the A2. A major draw-back with it is that it doesn't display a list of DAB stations from which you are able to make a selection! So, Paul, what is the situation with your Pure unit regarding display of stations? Also, how is the reception when you have travelled away from your local area?

Dave,
The Pure unit as a great display, it shows current station and what song is being played etc, it scans dynamically for stations and auto adjusts if it finds a stronger signal on a different frequency, it allows up to 30 pre set stations to be stored
I live in a very poor DAB reception area and get perfect reception, I've travelled over the M62 to York and M6 to Wigton near Carlisle and certainly the station I was listening too was perfect on the entire journeys (Radio 2 and 80's are my typical stations of choice)

I never tried the stick on aerial with the pure, but with the piece of crap I bought from China it was near useless even when stationary
cheers,
