Farewell to an old friend

On Saturday I said goodbye to my faithful A2 TDi90 Sport after 16 years of ownership. I bought it at 18 months old, with a mere 3000 miles on the clock, and it left me with 140,000 miles, so we've had quite a time together.

We've had our ups and downs, a turbo failure quite early on, and a bottom end engine rebuild more latterly, plus I seem to have rectified most of the common A2 faults somewhere along the way, but it was always worth the cost and hassle. So much fun to drive, such a pleasure even just for a trip to the shops.

I'll miss it, but I'm happy that it's gone to somebody from this forum, @Cenick who understands and appreciates A2s, and who will probably get around to doing the upgrades and little jobs I intended to do, but didn't. So it'll live on, hopefully happily for its new owner and I wish them both well.

We needed/wanted a bigger car. My wife has a Seat Ibiza and the boot's a bit poky for our labrador, plus when we go away with the dog, all our stuff has to go on the back seat. So an estate car was called for. I've bought a 5 year old Volvo V60 Cross Country. I'd like to have kept the A2 as a fun/project but two things dictated that wasn't going to happen. Firstly, my wife wasn't a fan of the idea, but secondly, I mostly work from home these days so my mileage has dropped a lot. I don't have a use for two cars, so an A2 project would likely get very little use and slowly moulder away. That's no life for a good car. So it had to go. I did, however, promise it that I'd not part-ex or WBAC it, but find an appreciative new home instead.
