This might not be to everyone’s taste, but, I have just uprated my springs on my A2.

Now I come from a background of cars with hard suspension.

I brought my A2 with the sports kit and having never driven a standard A2 I had nothing to compare things with.

The A2 now sits lower than the sports version, but it is hard and most people would not be happy with this especially as some people already complain.

But, the lower suspension, the firmer ride and the low profiles give a solid performance on country roads and motorways.

I am seriously impressed with the transformation. So for a guy who has sat on a Concept 2 rowing machine and done a few marathons in my time, sitting on my seats feels easy and the ride puts a smile on my face.

May I take this opportunity to pay respect to -

Next thing on my agenda is moving from 115bhp to somewhere around 150bhp and hitting the magic 300Nm, my lips are sealed.

Can you make your A2 bounce up and down on the beat of the music ?? :)

The music system in this car is all about a concert hall performance, my days of upsetting folks on the street are long gone. I am not too sure that I ever was a bad boy in that way, it attracts far too much attention, especially to people who want to steal your stuff. It has taken me long enough to improve the Audi alarm system, no need for me to test it out.

The next time we have a social you are more than welcome to jump in with your fav CD and have a listen.

EF_MAX,

Can I ask you about what engine you have and what gear box ? According to Audi documentation, the 5-speed gear box for the 1.4l engines can handle up to 250NM. If you have plans for 300NM, I wonder if you are going to upgrade the gearbox ?

If the timing is right, then I will be there as I enjoyed the last one.

Audi say lots of things.
My aim is not to blow my car up but have a little fun. The increase in power can only really be used in 3rd 4th and 5th gears as the car can not really handle what it has now in 1st and sometimes 2nd gear.

I am not an out and out boy racer but I do enjoy mid gear acceleration.

Having said that, I was brave enough to p!$$ a Porsche of yesterday in the wet on a twisty bit of dual carriageway and I made him think twice about the next time he sees an A2.

We were messing around in that 50mph - 90mph area and he obviously got away but not before I bruised his ego.

Now if I had had the new kit installed then he would be trading his car in by now because I am looking at 0-100mph in some seriously silly times.

Hi Erskine,
I know what you mean about having fun and then watching your prey's face. The other week I tested a 90PS and gave a Boxster driver the fright of his life. He probably thought 1.4 TDI, nah, then soiled his pants when he couldn't get rid of me on the motorway. Top end no way, but in real life conditions these little cars are huge fun.

Hello again,

Can you share what kind of kit you are planning to install/have installed ?

Other than some basic tweaking, I will say just three things, N O S, and leave you to work out the rest.

Dear Erskine,

NOW we are talking....I have been in touch with Highpower Systems/The Wizard of Nos (in UK) about this, and they say that adding NOS to the turbo diesel engine should in fact give very good results. They have done so on a old Citroen BX, and it was running very, very fast.

However, with the NOS you have two alternatives: 1. Wet system and 2. Dry system.

I would believe you will not add additional diesel, so you would need to have a dry system which gives NOS into the air inlet of the engine.

I was seriously planning to do so a year ago, but I stopped my plans due to the following reason: How do you get a rich diesel mixture when the nozzles in the "pumpe düse" (PD) have a limited capacity ? The piezo electric elements controlling the amount of diesel to put into the cylinders cannot be hacked to give more diesel, and thus you are limited to the amount you get with a full throttle. And, the air intake should be giving enough air for a full throttle response from Audi, and thus giving enough oxygen to combust the diesel provided.

Another concern I have is the extremely high pressure the PD works under - how would the ability to burn more diesel with NOS affect the PD ? Will the low temperature of the NOS be a problem ?

If you are aware of anyone that have installed NOS on a turbo diesel engine with the PD system, I would be very interested in learning more abouth theur experiences.

By the way: here is the info about the ones I talked to:

Highpower Systems International Ltd,
Rands Lane, Armthorpe, Doncaster,
South Yorkshire, England, DN3 3ER, UK.

They sure did and it didn't let the side down.

Hello,

I understand they added NOS to a 1.9TDi Golf with automatic transmission. But, was it a PD diesel engine ? I'm still concerned about the nozzles in the PD and how they would cope with the NOS.

I suspect it wasn't a PD because it was a Mk III golf

Hi there

I am still at the learning stage. I am trying to get as much info as possible and when I feel like I know what I am doing I will take the plunge.

I shall keep all interested parties up to date.

Dear Erskine,

I may be wrong about my concerns - the NOS will NOT be involved in the PD, since the function of this 'mechanism' is to make the diesel turn into a nice 'fog' and put it into the cylinders via a nozzle. In other words, the NOS will not be involved in the PD at all (I thought different before).

The NOS will come via the air inlet (for a dry system), and therefore it should not cause any problems in the PD.

However, Trev the Wizard of Nos at www.noswizard.com, says in his forum "I "know" there are so many factors influencing the end result of adding nitrous to a TDI, we DO NOT offer a blanket kit for any TDI and each car has to be considered as a new learning experience. ". (see his reply at http://www.noswizard.com/bboard/viewtopic.php?topic=3127&forum=3&19 )

So I guess the best thing is to get the NOS kit installed properly by someone who knows.

Where do you plan to get your kit from ?
