Fault Code P0571

I recently bought a handheld code scanner from Ebay for 20 quid, to save myself going the garage all the time.

I scanned my car and have came across this code, and am a bit stuck on what is causing it...

P0571 - Brake Switch A Circuit Malfunction.

Hi Tony i would like to have a guess it is likely to be the brake switch--possibly malfunctioning. So look at the how to threads and you will see how to change the switch on the pedal. This is common to give all sorts of strange errors. cheers mike

16955/P0571/001393 - Brake Light Switch (F): Implausible Signal

Possible Symptoms
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) active
Brake Light(s) not working

Possible Causes
Wiring and/or Connectors faulty
Fuse(s) faulty
Wrong Brake Light Bulb installed (21W instead of 5/21W)
Brake Light Bulb(s) faulty
Brake Light Switch (F) faulty

Possible Solutions
Check Wiring or Connectors
Check/Replace Fuse(s)
Check/Replace Brake Light Bulb(s)
Check/Replace Brake Switch (F)

Special Notes
Brake Light Switches (F) have the reputation of breaking quite often.

Thanks guys, I've already changed the brake switch 3 times, also last time out changed the bulbs, so possibly could be that as I didnt know that there were different ones, I just bought stop and tail bulbs.
I'll check fuses tomorrow, hopefully its only a minor niggle !!
 
Would it be best to buy a genuine Audi part? The switch I bought was made by Hans Pries Topran, and I've gone through 2 of them since March.
 
The genuine part is only around a tenner, so hardly worth going for a 3rd party unit. Make sure you get a green one rather than a black one.

When you say you've changed it 3 times, did it solve the problem temporarily, or did the problem never go away? If the latter, I'd suggest that there might be another cause.
