fault codes drving me insane

I have had the engine management light on my A2 1.6 for over a year and no mechanic or expert seems to know what to do. I had it scanned and the garage told me it was a problem only Audi could sort and they want £100 to scan. I bought the Vag free ware and did it myself and got codes 17439 (intake manifold tuning valve) and 17478 (NOx sensor heater control short to plus/open circuit). Any help would greatly recieved!!!!

17439/P1031/004145 - Intake Manifold Tuning Valve (N136): Setpoint Not Reached
Possible Causes

* Intake Manifold Flap blocked/tight
* Intake Manifold Tuning Valve (N136) faulty
* Intake Manifold Tuning Valve Position Sensor (G336) faulty

Possible Solutions

* Check Intake Manifold Tuning Valve (N136)
* Check Intake Manifold Tuning Valve Position Sensor (G336)
* Check Intake Manifold Flap

Looks like the sensors will need to be replaced, same goes for the Nox sensor from teh other fault code.

Local dealer quoted £150 for part inc vat. Is the free lite VAG test software reliable as that's what I've used for diagnosis and could be very expensive if wrong!!

You could try removing and cleaning manifold flap in case its getting stuck.

Is that price for both the possible faulty sensors?

We also have the P1031 error code relating to same sort of issue.

We have just got it back from Garage as well for a new headgasket, cambelt and water pump as well :(

Anyway, temp light came on today.....took it to garage who said some water has been lost..but cannot see where from.

Drove home, the engine management light is now off, but lots of lovely steam or smoke coming from under car :(.....cannot see anything but it does not smell (hence i thought steam)

Garage says could be a dodgy pipe/tube pissing water onto exhaust??? no idea.

Car back in Monday :(

Hope you sort your problem out though Trisyork (sorry for hijack with my whinging)

So you took your car into the garage to get the headgasket done and it comes back pissing water and emitting steam everywhere? Gordon Bennett, what a bunch of Charlatans.

The £150 was just for lambda part! Ive managed to track down a bosch one for £90 on eurocarparts. Any clues to wear the manifold flap is please??
Dragoon- sounds like u had bad luck there mate, still, I do like your unusual A2

It attached to / in the manifold. This is the part that delivers the air to the engine.
I havent got a diagram to hand, but will try upload one when im in from work.

If you trace from the airbox / filter housing and follow the path to the engine you will find the manifold and thus the part with the manifold flap.

Thanks...it is a bit unusual in colour coding...the wife likes it and will not allow me have it sprayed the correctly (all matching yellow)...not that I can afford it for a while :(

Aye....bit worried myself...they came highly recommended too, and I certainly feel comfortable with them....just a shame about the issues :(
