Hi Matt,

your original post on this thread is fantastic and your response to Daniel is balanced and valuable.

I hope to see lots more posts from you if and when you get chance, your "rank" of "Rookie" is only due to the quantity of posts, not the quality.

Great to have you on board!!!

That's very kind of you to say, Steve. Thank you very much! :)

I'll try and post if I can help out at all, it's good to be part of such a great community.

Best regards,

Matt.

Also got the boot light and the boot microswitch going with a toothbrush, some janking, and alot of WD40. As reported I assume it will stop working again at some point but until then all good....

My wife's car just started doing this. Need to get around to fixing it over the weekend. It seems if I push to one side on the switch when it's in the central position the light will turn on, but immediately turns off when I let go. Thanks for the guide!

Thanks to Matt's excellent investigative skills and this thread, today I undertook to repair my own rear switch.

The end result was a success targeting the same point as highlighted in this guide. It definitely seems to be a weak point which appears to crack and dry up over time. My attempts involved a touch of trial an error. First attempt was a dry solder which did nothing to improve the intermittent nature of the fault. Next up was to add solder which saw the light work perfectly. So good in fact that whilst it auto dimmed off, the switch wouldn't do the same in the off position. A quick trim of excess solder and perfection.

Thanks Matt; top tip and top job.

Did mine today as it was intermittent too. Dry solder joint repaired by carefully heating pin with a soldering iron and contacting pin at the same time with some soldering flux.

Matt.

Just done mine. Resoldered the pin marked in the first post of this thread, and voila! - another successfully repaired rear light.
This forum really is the most useful and friendly I've ever been involved with.
