Fed up with my FSI

I have had my FSI Sport for 2 months now and I am fed up with its running characteristics. It will simply not run smoothly. I know that the engine is 'tuned' for low torque at the lower rev band to save fuel and I have heard folk say the FSI units are a bit tardy but mine is bloody awful! The car has been back to the dealer three times ( the last time I said "keep until its sorted!") and, whilst they put it down to a faulty accelerator accuator it is still as bad as ever. It makes driving in heavy traffic or pulling out of junctions unpleasant and at worst dangerous. I am also getting 36 mpg avaerage in very varied driving which, given the marketing hype, is not great.
Anyone had the same scenario or have I got a lemon?! The car has covered 10K and was an ex demo dealer car.

Aargh!!!! Jono

Hi Jono - I bought an FSI (ex dealer demo 6k) 5 weeks ago and I reckon the engine is an absolute beauty. It pulls well in all gears and just keeps going. It sounds a bit like a deisel on start up but otherwise I can't hear the engine on tickover and there's not a sign of vibration. My wife has had the car for the past 2 weeks in town only and is getting 33.9. On a recent run to Robin Hood's Bay (200 milesish round trip) on mixed roads and crawling around Whitby we got 48 for the day without trying - I think that is pretty impressive. Not to say I've had no probs at all; my rear set back catches have both failed. On the engine though I'd have to say it's brilliant & I'd keep on at the dealer until you're happy with the car. Has he got another one you can try?? Cheers, Phil

You tried different fuel? Super or Shell optimax?

Has the dealer replaced the accuator?

Whilst we can all say "give it more revs" or "try different fuel" if it's a fault, it's a fault and the dealer has to sort. Have you tried other FSI's just in case it's user error? Not saying it's you-after all you press the gas and away you go-but if you can prove this to the dealer the balls firmly in his court to get your car fixed.

Whilst my A2 was in the garage once, I had a FSi and was just as you describe Jono. Could only be decribed as running like a sack of spuds! Delay in pulling away and really jerky when it did, as you say this could be quite dangerous. The dealer said "oh" when I returned it and told them of my concerns!!!

I also had a FSI (or the slug as we named it) while my A2 1.4tdi was in for service couldn't wait to get my baby back. As the service took 2 days.I feel the TDI is a far better car.

Ok I test drove the 1.4 - nice, could do with a little more go - tried the FSI a different car - very pleased with it great engine... now you're saying the 1.4 diesel is the way to go - oh no another test drive now then !

Mmmm, I have had my FSi since 9th September, put about 800 miles on the clock. Got it brand new. Absolutely no problems whatsoever. Pull aways is quick, at 80mph in 5th, put my foot down and the car takes off.

I think you have a lemon mate.
