Finally did it!

After lurking on A2OC on and off over the years, we finally own an A2 :) We looked ages ago and didn’t have the budget, I almost gave up, thinking the cars available we getting too old and the miles too high. We now own a 2001 plate TDI with OSS, Bose (not sure what) and a few other bits. My wife has (half) joked that each car we buy seems to get older than the last. Previously we had a 2003 mini and before that a 2004 civic. Anyway, I have been checking how everything works and slowly getting used to things even though my wife is the main driver. I also have a few questions if anyone can help....

I have seen some Audi workshop CD manuals on ebay covering the A2 plus others @ £4.99 – are these recommended or is there something better?

I have read all the posts about Bose but am not quite sure if I have the full system, I definitely have a unit in the boot next to the battery, I am assuming this is the sub?, there are also tools under the drivers floor but I also read there should be an amp under the drivers floor? Was this another option or could there be something under the grey tray that holds the tools? Or should this be somewhere else. (The radio display doesn’t show “BOSE”)

The car is mainly used by my wife, I did use it the other day and noticed some random short deep pitch noises/ creaks, I thought originally these were from outside, I am now wondering if there is a possible fault on the sub and if this could emit sounds when the radio is off, I thought about removing the fuse for the sub for 30 mins to see if any better, does anyone have any experience of this (or know where the fuse is located?)

Thanks in advance, looking forward to being part of the community

Glad you finally got your A2. It's a great, reliable, classy car with the X factor. Welcome to A2 land. :)

Welcome to the forum. The bose amplifier is underneath the polystyrene holder for the tools in the footwell. The fact the tools are there suggests that you likely do have Bose. Are there Bose decals on your speaker grills and is the stereo head unit an Audi one? The Bose sign only appears for a few seconds when you turn the radio on. If that doesn't happen the system may be a retro fit. These couple of checks should tell you either way.

Hi,

It could be that the stereo head unit in your car has been changed at some point in its life and that the replacement wasn't correctly coded for Bose. I'm not far up the road from you and know the Bose system inside out, so if you're willing to take a drive up the M61, I'll happily do what's necessary.

Cheers,

Tom

Hi everyone and thanks for the warm welcome, I've a growing list of things to check and jobs to do on the car. The 1st is to get a spare wheel sorted out. I'll do some investigating under the floor for an amp, last time I looked, the polystyrene tool tray seemed to be firmly wedged in.
Hi timmus, where abouts are you, may well take a trip up to yours at some point,
Thanks again, Simon

Hi timmus, where abouts are you?

Hi Simon,

If you look in the grey bar at the top of anyone's posts, on the right-hand-side, you'll see their location (though perhaps some smartphone layouts omit this?). I'm in Lancaster.

Cheers,

Tom

Hi Tom
Got it now thanks, would be great to meet up at some point to check things out. I had a look earlier under the floor. Took the tool tray out and found a black bracket mounted to the side of the tunnel. There were some wires to it so assume this is the amp. Checked the radio again and definitely don't see BOSE on the display. As far as I know, the system was fitted from new unless anything has been changed.
cheers Simon

Simon, welcome.
The black bracket you describe is the bracket that mounts the Bose amplifier. It is mounted at an angle and the amp is behind (upside down) the bracket.
The sub-woofer resides in the boot between the battery and the rear valance.
The Bose splash display is a hardware activated feature that can be enabled by anyone with knowledge of the wiring pin-outs and the correct tools.

Enjoy your A2.

blue skies
Tony
