First A2

Been a Audi fan for a longtime since my first one a Audi 80 in 1985 and had several more since , but I had for a few years wanted a A2 which I have finally managed to get . It's a 2005 se with full Audi service history 1.4 petrol 83000 miles but only after having it a few days it has started to make a knocking noise from the engine like a tappet I'm not sure if after reading the posts on here if it's not to happy with cheaper supermarket petrol?

Hallo and welcome to the forum!
When you say your car is an SE, is that the run out special edition version or the "full fat" Special equipment? Usually a plastic steering wheel for the first and leather for the second.

Sorry to hear (pun unintended) that you engine is making a knocking noise. Nothing too serious I hope. Personally I only use Shell Nitro, and failing that branded 98RON. Whilst you might save a few pence with supermarket petrol, I would consider it a false economy.
Enjoy your car they are quite addictive, indeed one forum member has a whole fleet of them!

Thanks very much for the welcomes it's the full fat one with a leather steering wheel and I will now use shell v power and hopefully that makes a difference with the sound

Assuming that it is the same 1.4 16v engine that is in my 2002MY I don't think that it will run any differently on 98octain as against 95 obtain, mine certainly felt and sounded the same on shell std petrol and shell power, but I do agree that keeping away from supermarket fuel is a good thing long term
May be a sticking tapet which a good engine flush treatment can help with
Best of luck
