First Car

Hi Everyone, excited as I just got an A2 (1.4 TDI 02 Plate) as my first car and will be having driving lessons soon.

The car does have some issues and I would like to seek help and guidance on how to solve some of the immediate ones, but most likely they have been discussed many times in the forums:

Driver Info Display has dead pixels so would like to replace
Heater only blows hot air :) (OK for the winter)
After market Radio is horrible so would want to replace back to the Audi version
Driver Information shows a handbrake warning light permanently

Will post where I can identify the right place (I hope I get it right), any help appreciated as I am not good mechanically and would need to take this to a garage etc.

Thanks
Emily (EJB)

Hello, welcome.

DIS replacements aren't overly difficult but you'll need to take the cluster out; it's possible @timmus might be able to help.
Hot air - you'll need to get it scanned. I suspect it's a flap somewhere and a basic setting /might/ resolve it. There are instructions on how to swap them out on the forum.
Swapping your radio back out might be interesting, depending how butchered the cables are.

The last one? no idea why, this is something I've not heard of before, anywhere.

Welcome, what a good choice for a first car.
There will be plenty of help on guidance coming your way very soon I would think from the experienced helpful people on here.
A picture of the car would be nice too.
All the best

Welcome.
,
Decent people who know their stuff are Wheelbase in Hersham. For cluster repairs and complex electrical,Timmus who is up in Lancaster.

He is truly great.

Best of luck with your test.

Regards,

Simon

Welcome along.

When you push down on the handbrake in the released position does the light go out?

Try operating the climate unit buttons, to open and close the flaps inside, and also wind temperature up and down.
You may need to do this for 5 minutes or so. Sometimes the flaps stick as mentioned and will often free up. Best to do this with the engine running so you have max voltage to the climate unit.

Take the cluster out, and send it to Totaltronics. Patryk will sort it out, and give you a warranty.
Take a look here, and get in touch with him:

Hi Emily,

I've sent you a private message regarding your A2's electrical faults.

Until I've at least seen a photo of the faulty display, I'd encourage you not to send the cluster away for repair. I have poor experiences of the cheap Chinese replica screens fitted by such companies. Although I'm not exactly local to you, I can also repair your existing instrument cluster by post, and it won't cost as much, and I won't put any replica parts in it.

Cheers,

Tom

Cluster failure, or "dashpod" failure is very common on Mk1 TTs. I got mine fixed by Patryk at Totaltronics about two years ago, and I'm still very happy with the result. Many fellow MK1 TT owners have also had theira fixed by Patryk, and the feedback https://totaltronics.com/testimonials/ is excellant, Like you, he will also provide help and advice
As stated on his website "We only use genuine, brand new replacement parts and that is why we give you a lifetime warranty"
I've no doubt there are lots of repairers out there who fit your descriptiond, but, I do not believe Totaltronis to be one of them.
I have no affiliation with Patryk, but I don't like to see a "good guy" who has, and contiues to, provide an excellant service disparaged, just because there are "bad guys" out there too.

Mac.

Emily has manual heater controls not climate. She has posted a wanted ad for the missing control rod.

Hi EJB,
Is the handbrake fault light you refer to
Red with a pair of brake shoes on it,
If so it is a critical warning,as warnings in yellow are advisory, a picture of the aforementioned light would help us identify & offer advice.
