Just had another puncture! Nail right in the shoulder of the tyre - so could not be repaired - of course...... Anyway went to Roadwheel in Fleet, 01252 617788, as they do stuff for our local dealer, I knew they would have some in stock. 205/40/17, by the way. They had a look and informed me that the tyres were perished and badly cracked, I say tyres as they showed me both rear tyres and they were the same. So although I was really miffed about the nail, if the tyre had not gone flat I would not have seen the cracks, probably 'til thet went bang somewhere on the M25! The really nice bloke at Roadwheel said that these tyres were defective and he has only ever seen it once before. This sort of cracking would only usually appear on tyres 5-6 years old that had been standing.
Roadwheel are sending them back to Dunlop and I should be contacted by them directly. Rest assured - I will give them hell! This happened to my front tyres as well last year. It was only that they had gone flat that you could tell how bad they were.
So, if anyone owns a 2002 Sport with Dunlop 9090, PLEASE PLEASE have them checked asap. The only way you can do this is have all the air let out and squash the tyre - otherwise you will be none the wiser. Yes, I was really miffed at £200 for 2 new tyres, but if I hadn't got the nail could have been a lot more serious.
