first fault after 2 years ! help please

hey
had my a2 for over 2 years now and it's been faultless but just recently the engine and epc warning lights have been coming on , the epc erratically and the engine one all the time , it threw up a lambda probe fault so changed that , but it's very hesitant on the throttle now and really needs lots of rpm to pull away and stalls when slowing down at a junction , it's always started again easily but recently it would nt start despite turning over
looking through past threads and after speaking to my mate who's a Vw tech , I'm guessing it's the throttle body that needs cleaning or replacing ???unfortunately he reckons that after cleaning they need re setting to the car and that on Vw s at least , they don't always work and then I'll need a new throttle body !!!!!
anyone got any thoughts / experience with my problems ? it's a 2001 1.4 petrol
thanks
dan

thanks spike was hoping you'd reply , I'll give it a go and see what happens , in your opinion does that sound the likely culprit?
cheers

Hi there.

Had an almost identical problem on our 1.4 petrol, EPC and engine light with hesitation under load and non starting. We have a VAG specialist in Bedfordshire called TTS Roadsport. They replaced the Lambda sensor in the manifold and cleaned the throttle body and it has solved the problem. Not saying it will for you, but sounds very similar.

Regards,

Paul.

Sounds like the same problem I had, cleaning the throttle body curred the problem perfectly, apparently quite an easy job if you follow the guide, and as it says you should be able to use the work around if you don't have Vagcom.

hey
well got the throttle body cleaned and the a2 is driving like a dream now, apparently it was showing a manifold pressure fault on vagcom .which is common apparently on the Vw 1.4 16v engined cars that he has done before!!
it had tons of carbon built up on it ,1mm thick in places, I'm guessing it s never been cleaned before and the cars on 97k now
anyway it idles perfectly and pulls away without me having to rev the nuts off it ,the epc and management lights are off and staying off so I'm chuffed to bits
cheers everyone
dan
