First Quality Problem with my A2

Found my first Quality problem today with the passenger side rear seat. Removed them completely last week, not for the first time, and refitted them a day later. Today I noticed that the top of passenger side seat was slightly higher than the drivers side. On investigation, found that it wasn't fully locked down. After 5 or so minutes of banging, couldn't get the seat to lock into place at all. I didn't want to force it any more, therefore off to the dealer tomorrow to get them to try.
It seems a minor problem, however I am bit concerned as I wouldn't like to imagine how it would cope in the event of an accident.

I am also going to ask them what oil I should be using ; VW 506.00 or VW 506.01. Hopefully I can clear up this query.

Hi chaps,

just been reading thro you talks about lubrication, I have a contact on another forum (non-Audi) who is a consultant lubrication technician. Its not strictley on topic but it should prove useful.

To put it simply.

The engine retains a memory of the oil used, i.e. its chemical makeup, mineral content etc. Therefore if the vehicle is to be kept long term then it is wise to use the same oil throughout the lifetime of the vehicle. i.e find out what the dealer uses.

Also the servicing intervals are very dependant upon you driving styles, obviously a hard driven engine will breakdown the oil far quicker than one which spends its life at constant load on a motorway.
One of the worst problems is the school run vehicle, where the moisture build up within the engine does not get chance to be burnt off and contaminates the oil very quickly, and even a fully synthetic oil will suffer in a very short time.

One last thing if you are unsure of the condition of your oil, try the business card spot test.

Put a spot of oil on the back of a business card (non-glossy type) wait for a couple of minutes and you can see that the oil will spread out. You shoulkd get an even colour across the whole surface of the spot, which indicate that the dispersants are carrying the soot particles thro the oil and not depositing them. If the spot is darker in the centre then the dispersants have broken down and an oil change is due, and obviously if the sample is so thick and black it doesn't spread then your in deep doo doo.

Hope this helps[8D]

Let me confuse you further - but hopefully it will put your mind at rest!

Obtained my brand new A2 (m***ively better than the 'old' one - but that's another story) and I looked in the manual to see what it said about the oil.

It says - for LongLife Service use either VW 506 00 OR VW 506 01.

So I think your dealer is spot on after all and it looks like the insert was wrong!

regarding the oil - I'm awaiting ZB's return as well.
I can only say the garage itself uses Esso Ultron 'Long Drain', 506.00
specification (18 EUR/l) - and the car manual states 506.00 or 506.01
for VSI and 505.00 or .01 for regular servicing (they use regular
'Esso Ultron' for that - 14 EUR/l).
So to me, using VSI is a lot cheaper in terms of oil. Only had to add 1 litre so far (30000 km/18500 mi)

I doubt that I am alone in seeing a funny side to this. Audi/VW commission Castrol to design a new oil (especially to cater for the new PD range of diesel turbo’s) – and then down on the ranch Audi dealers are apparently using Esso oil.

I do not know how accurate the statement is, or the circumstances, but from sources elsewhere I was informed VW had shelled out millions of ££££’s due to the wrong oil being used and then knackering the engine.

i went home with empty hands but today i went there again and i´ve talk with to " manager" and he told me is going to change the left headlight i even told me if i wanted i cold change it all...hehehhe the rear drums it doesn´t affect the brakes so.....and i ask him about rear drums of the a2 3l and he said ours are better...;P
About the long life service oil change at least 30.000 kms - "service in" only the rent-a-car uses.
