First Variable Service In Herts

Well we just had our A2’s first Variable Service at 29600 miles because the 2 years Max interval is up.
We phoned for quotes as well as looking through here to see what was the expected price, issues & problems and the quality of service that all you other A2 Owners had experienced from Audi and other Garages.
We ended up at Sheppards VW of Bishops Stortford (they were Audi many years ago and are just across the road from where my Wife works, which makes things soooo much easier) and they were over £100 less than Stansted Audi just up the road.

Description Ex VAT Inc VAT
Service £117.86 £138.49
Brake Fluid Change Labour £29.80 £35.02
Programme Central Locking £20.00 £23.50
Screen Wash £3.15 £3.70
Oil Filter £5.40 £6.35
Pollen Filter £11.00 £12.93
Brake Fluid £14.82 £17.41
Seal £0.59 £0.69
Shell Oil £46.80 £54.99
Shell Oil Helix 1L £11.70 £13.75
Clean Seats £12.77 £15.00
Totals £273.89 £321.82
(sorry about the alignment!!)

The service at Sheppards would have been £230, but with all the extra Brake Fluid Change, Auto Central Locking Programming and Cleaning of the Front seat it came to £321 using all the proper VAG parts. They appear to have done a thorough service, gave the car a good clean and gave us the bill in a nice cardboard folder!!
The only problem is that they could not fix the Ashtray under warranty (that has lost its ability to self open in a nice controlled manner), we have to visit an Audi Stealer for this.
The Variable Service indicator is showing only 9300 till next service, but from other threads I have just read I hope that this will sort its self out based on our driving.
So all in all not a bad job and I try to justify the bill by dividing it by two.
I will be using them again and would recommend Sheppards VW to other Audi owners, but looking at the A2 Google Map, there are not many A2 owners in the area!!:)

Service

Just booked ours in for exactly the same - first AVS with brake fluid. Audi dealers ranged from £421 to £475 (this is Bucks mind you). The local VW place came out at £357.

I think we need 4 new tyres as well though...

Hi ULP,
Just read all your many quotes again. The thing that amazes me is the difference in the cost of the Brake Fluid Change. I paid about £52 at VW and some of the Audi Stealers charge £102 including Stanstead Audi (which is part of the Hatfield group). The Fluid Change is not Rocket Science, but it is a licence to print money!!

Thanks Aikon,
Just been in the garage looking at the dash and ours has a storage cubby above the ashtray and the Climate above that. I have pulled, pushed & poked and I'm b****red if I can see how to remove it to get to the top of the Ashtray.
But I am sure that you or one of our other dear A2 owners will be able to advise me:confused:

Kind Regards

Well I had a search of this Super site and found that Skipton01 describes, in one of his many technical threads, how to remove the storage cubby by inserting your hands and pulling the unit out that should release the 2 side clips.
I just couldn't do it!! He said it would be tight if it hasn't been removed before, TIGHT - I think that this one is welded in!! I felt that if I tugged any harder something would break, I even put gloves on to save removing the skin from the back of my hands. So I've admitted defeat and will take it in to Audi so that they can sort it out - I suppose that is what the Warranty is for!

It is very tight - normally, the dealer will remove the radio and give the storage shelf a shove from the back. You have to be careful doing this though as it is very easy to break the mounting points for the indicator relay which is in this area.

Cheers,

Mike
