Fitting Audi 2003 floppy wiper conversion

LHD part numbers

Just finished the aero conversion on my '01 left hand drive TDI. The procedure is the same, but you need the following part numbers:
8Z1 955 407 E - WIPER ARM
8Z1 955 425 F - AUDI WIPER BLADE

Tried fitting this evening, got as far as removing the nuts, but the wiper arm won't shift off the spindle... I have sprayed WD40 on the area and re-assembled hoping to give it another go another time.

Any tips on getting the blighter off?

You'll need to use a puller, as the mounting bolts are cone shaped, and over time, the alloy arm will bond with the steel bolt.

Cheers,

Mike

What I thought would be a 20 minute job is turning out to be rather more.
A puller, is that a standard item, or something special just for this job?
Any idea where can I get one??

Many thanks

Try somewhere like Machinemart or a specialist tool merchant. You may get something from Halfords, but don't hold your breath!

All Audi wipers of recent years are of this type and they are an absolute sod to remove!

Cheers,

Mike

wiper

just ''upgraded'' to the new aero wiper and arm.....great instructions...very easy to follow.....thanks

- for info - my local dealer was unable to find the old style wiper on the computer - says that it is no longer made although some dealers may have old stock etc..

thanks

again

A stupid question, sorry in advance.

Do all A2's have the single wiper arm?
Ours has a Single wiper arm and was just wondering if this thread is something different/better than what we have already?

Cheers
Steve

You're right - all A2s have just the single wiper.

Later ones have a floppy blade, which is more efficient, and earlier ones can be converted, using this guide.

The thread has now been renamed for clarity.

Cheers.

Aha, thanks for that :)
Will check ours tonight

Hmm, just found a bunch on eBay, Halfords do some also but don't look brilliant unless you go for the £100 version.

This looks like a good one though:

Was hoping to do the job this weekend, but guess i'll have to wait for this extra to arrive.

Thanks for the pointers

That link didn't work, but...would this basic puller be ok:

Good fitting guide. I did this today to our 2001 petrol which had the old-style wiper. I used pulling tools I found from local shop. It's essential to have a tool for arm removal otherwise job can turn out very difficult.

Another job Done(Finally).
Thank you Ben & Shazlee for the visuals which helped me along with instructions given from a fellow member too...Another Mod Done :)

Regards,

Mohammad

Just did this job in 20 minutes thanks to this how to. I got a Clarke puller made for the job from Machine Mart. It cost a tenner

Could someone re-post the wiper fitting guide please? Just had our windscreen crack after replacing the wiper blades and noticed the arm has been hitting bottom of the windscreen and plastic trim. Thought may as well replace the wiper arm with floppy type (if can still buy one) when windscreen is replaced.

£75 if claimed on car insurance (for most policies these days) and does not affect your no claims bonus, however most insurance Co do limit the number of glass claims too 3 in any two years period

I would gestimate around £150 if not going through insurance Co, plus fitting (its a bonded screen) and also as a top tint so may be near £200

Cheers,
Paul
