Fitting drums (rear brakes)

Quick question for the drum brake gurus - how do you fit a new drum?

I've removed the existing drum to fit a new wheel bearing, all straight forward. Refitting old drum is a breeze but the new drum is 200mm diameter so I guess the shoes need to be somehow adjusted in to give clearance for the new drum which is effectively smaller diameter than the old drum (now around 2-3mm wider from wear.

thanks in advance!

The rear drums are adjusted by a " falling wedge ". You raise the wedge upwards and this allows the shoes to retract providing clearance for the drum to fit over the top. Make sure your hand brake is off as that pulls the shoes apart also ( several people have been caught out in the past not releasing their hand brake ). There are 2 sizes or rear shoes / drums, the smaller is only on the 1.2 and has a four stud mounting and the larger on all other rear drum cars has the 5 studs. Lastly just try to ensure that the shoes are centralised on the back plate and are sitting correctly on the slave cylinder. I find if you try to fit the drum from the bottom and rotate towards the top this also helps ensure the shoes are located.
