Fond Farewell

A2OC Donor
With a heavy heart I traded in my 1.6 FSI last week (for a 2010 Golf Plus 1.6 CR TDI) and regretted it every day since! Needs must and we really needed something bigger.

I owned the FSI for nearly 5 years of largely trouble free and very happy motoring, having had the TDI 75 and 1.4 petrol before that. 10 years of A2 ownership have left me a bit spoilt and I have really struggled to find anything that has the appeal of our little Audi.

I will still be keeping in touch with the club and all things A2, who knows maybe one day I'll be on my fourth A2!? The forum has really been invaluable, especially the advice and knowledge of those long time owners/members. It is a great resource and it really adds to the owner experience.

If I can bring myself to do it, I've got a few accessories that I will put up for sale on the forum in the next few days.

Thanks all

David

I feel the pain just reading your post, nevertheless hope you have many happy miles and ownership with your new motor and hey maybe, just maybe that 4th A2 might one day come along.......:)

All the best.

Best of luck David. 10 years is a good innings with the A2. I'm into 11 years this month - and still can't see myself replacing it right now.

I was in the same position a few years back now sold my FSI and always said i would have another A2......So i did just that i now have a 54 plate 1.4tdi.

I've known you a long time David and met you on several occasions - I know how hard it must have been to trade-in your A2.

Fear not, try to enjoy the Golf and don't be a stranger around here - you could well get yourself another A2 in the future when the prices drop as a fun car and let the Golf take the strain.

Ah well, servicing the Golf really won't be the same experience as a trip over the hill to Mossley! As I say, all part of the pleasure of A2 ownership that just can't be replicated in other cars. So a particular thanks to you Mike for all your help and advice and time over the last few years. And yes, I will stick around at least in a virtual sense, and who knows when I could be back as an A2 owner once again?? Soon I hope! Take care and thanks again.

Thanks Ben...long may your A2 ownership continue. After 10 years these last few days without one has been akin to missing a limb!

Three A2's but no more...

A real shame that but I guess if you need more space and it's the main car then something has to give! Nice car the Golf Plus, sadly underrated I think as it's a nice balance between more space and not being a full-sized fertility wagon (like wot we have!) - we looked at a 2.0TDI GT when Mrs FB was pregnant but it was just too much money at the time.

Yes a shame indeed. A summer trip to devon was what did for our A2 ownership I think! Ironic as the A2 was a faultless a drive as ever - swallowed 5 of us and our stuff with the help of the roofbox, but the complaints about lack of room in the back started at Chesterfield!

The Golf Plus is quiet and refined, a good VAG-style drive and HUGE in comparison to the A2. Am trying to get over my irritation with the front and rear parking sensors, and the gear change indicator telling me to change up when its clearly going to struggle in that next gear! The 2009 facelift helped with the looks but its still a big silver beast sitting outside my house! Still not sure why I thought silver was a good idea in a large-ish family car, but am hoping I get used to it.
