Fork Juice..... :-)

HI All - it is with fear and trepidation that I make my first post of something I have tried with our A2 in the hope that
  1. I've not done something that will cause problems later :)
  2. it might help someone else...?

So... the cupholder mechanisms were sticking. when pressed they sometimes didnt come out at all and sometimes only partially erupted !

However, in a flash (of what I hope was inspiration) I remembered that I had some stuff that I use on my mountain bike forks that works as a great lubricant for fork seals. I've used it previously on car boot gas springs and it works pretty well

I sprayed this stuff into the joints of the cupholders and basically anywhere where the metal and plastic was moving against each other and lo and behold both of the upholders are working smoothly now :) ?? OK - I know this is a tiny thing but it brought great joy to be able to just click the cupholder and see it smoothly move out to position ... I must have sat there and done that for 5 minutes....

I don't know if this is recommended or if anyone out there has got any stronger wisdom on this but it seems to have done a good job for me....

Cheers all

Great snip of info, I for one really need to do this so will now give it a go with some wd40 and see if it helps, if not I'll try the lube?

I've tried to rescue a sticky cupholder with WD40 and it didn't do anything. Still sticky, just slippery at the same time :D
The fork lube is interesting though ?

I’ve found that they are gummed up with the remnants of soft sugary drinks
Take them out and give them a good washing in hot soapy water and is a tooth brush to get all the gunk off them
Allow to dry and they are as smooth as silk

Cheers. Paul

Too many products only work initially then act as magnets to trap dust etc. The result is that they end up in a worse condition than before. If the OEM designed them with no "lubrication" that is the way they should stay. But if a grease was used then that should be cleaned off and replaced with more of the same type of grease.
With Paul on washing the cup holders, just do not rub the coating off the front panel.

I took a nail brush to the fascias and in hot soapy water got rid of the rotten soft touch once and for all!

Yes, I did the same thing, while not an ideal solution it looks far better than the patchy scratched soft touch!
