Hi all, and especially Stuart I guess,

Sorry to start nagging about this again, but I really feel like something is terribly wrong with the servers that this forum is being hosted on.
[15]

In the last 24h or so, I got the infamous 'Error 500' from it: no forum at all.
Over the last few weeks, performance has been going down steadily.
Not only new susbmissions time out all the time (a known/old problem), but also just about everything else is painfully slow or stops somewhere in the middle: active topic lists (my favorite), regular topic listings, single topic details and of course the searches. All of it.

So processing takes too long and the produced datastream is diminutive too: under 1k/s as my Opera browser shows it.

I'm not really wondering if I'm the only one experiencing this. My setup/connection is not at fault, that's for sure (for me). And the software that the forum uses seems fine to me to. I find forums based on the same elsewhere, and they run fine. So my conclusion still is that this is a hardware/hosting problem.

Cheers,

Edo

P.S. I know that as a non-contributing non-A2OC member I should keep my mouth shut about all of this. But will my taking on (paying) membership help in any way?

Edo - yes, your membership would help. It would help cover the already extensive costs for the club resources and forum which you and many others use for free! I have spent hundreds of my own pounds over the past few years supporting merchandise, events, the growth of the sites etc and without further people joining the club or supporting it, it's impossible to cover these types of costs.

Yes, the forum does go through bad patches and it probably does need moving to a new host or the software upgrading, but lets face it, we're all busy people and finding the time to improve a forum as massive as this one is very difficult. I've already recently moved it from one bad host to the current one having experienced even worse stability previously.

Your comments are not falling on deaf ears and I apologise for the harshness of my feedback, but you must appreciate the amount of work that goes into maintaining these sites and the fact that a lot of the problems are out of my control, there is only so much I can do!

Probably the same guys who run our IT. My desktop PC has 64mb of memory. I use IE, Word, Visio. Open all three and my PC makes a funny kind of sound (a bit like escaping air...), goes a funny shade of blue and dies [2]

And I thought I worked for the largest UK insurance company........not a back street set-up[21]

Stuart,

I did remove some old backups that had been saved on the website - not sure if you had put them there? I have copies if you want them. Maybe that solved it!!!! - not sure.
I would put my money on the hosts playing games again though!!!

Hey, I thought this message had 'died' in the huge slowdown that I experienced, back on April 27th?!

I must say I even thought that it got deleted by you, Stuart. Which I thought was up to you to decide, by all means.

But appearently it's still here. And I don't want to suggest that I'd just drop my complaint and run for shelter....

So, Stuart, please do know that I don't think you replied in a harsh fashion. You're just right. And I'm certainly aware of the amount of time you (and others) put in this forum and the club in general. There's only so much that a man can do with limited resources...

Thanks, and I hope you didn't feel personally offended in any way...

Edo
