Hi, just joined the forum, don't own an A2 at the moment but have been actively searching for the right one on and off for a few months. I live in Dundee, Scotland and there aren't many around here so have been widening my search area somewhat. Hoping to get lots of advice and info when the right one comes along. I currently own a 1994 Audi Cabriolet but fancy the A2 with it's cheaper running costs. I kinda fancy a 1.6 FSI, and would be interested in the thoughts of forum members regarding this model.

Hi welcome to the forum.

There's a TDI for sale in the classifieds section in Scotland. It has a good spec and with a bit of cosmetic work could make a good car.

Hi welcome to the forum.

Yes, I've had a look at that and the current owner has certainly looked after it and with a wee bit work it'd be a tidy car, but I think I'd prefer to spend a bit more and pick a relatively low mileage A2. Thanks for the pointer.

The FSi is the Marmite of the A2 world - you either love them or hate them! :D I have had my 2004 Colour Storm FSi since it was about 2.5 years old, it's just hit 70,000 miles and has been faultless. Mind you, it has always been run on Super Unleaded (ie min 98 octane) petrol. Disregard anyone who tries to tell you it's ok to run an FSi on lower octane fuel. They were not designed for low grade fuel and an FSi constantly run on 95 octane will be one unhappy car.

There are, however, several members on here who own (or have previously owned) FSi's and have had numerous problems with them. A quick search on here will show up a long list of supposedly inherent FSi problems to look out for. All I can say is that none of them have happened to me, but be thorough in your inspection of any potential purchase. Like any other car, buy on condition. If you can find a low mileage, few previous owners car with a service history and some indication that it has been run on 98 you should be fine. If it's a private sale, you can always ask the owner directly. If it's from a garage, get 12 months comprehensive warranty (even if you have to pay for it yourself) - any problems if you have bought a dodgy one should have shown themselves before the 12 months is up and £250 or so for a warranty if you have to make any claims is money well spent.
