Front Bumper and Bumper Tray

I've noticed that a section under the front bumper of my A2 is hanging down and looks like it has been damaged or had some contract with either a curb or speed hump at some stage recently.

Fortunately I have a mechanic neighbour who will look at it for me but before I pestered him, I wondered whether there were any diagrams available of how the bumper sections fit together.

I'm assuming the bumper tray attaches to the bumper but I'm not sure whether damage to the underside of the bumper has caused the tray to become released and therefore I might need to replace both. The underside of the front of the bumper does look like it is out of shape.

I could be naming these parts wrongly as I'm talking about the plastic rather than metallic parts

Once I'm sure I can scour the internet for scrap dealers and then either fit them myself or get him to fit them for me.

Right the black lower part of the bumper is all part of the painted bit, so its not sold seperatly you have to get a full bumper, but it may just be the under tray come loose that part is screwed to the bumper

Cheers Phil

On the join between the under tray and the bumper there are 3 screws, I managed to pull these out reversing over a stone - Audi wanted to replace the whole bumper and under tray but with help from this forum and I picture (skipton sourced) I obtained the 3 C shaped clips that are required for the screws to attach too.

Cheers for the replies

I have a feeling that the front of the bumper tray has been damaged either by going over one of
the numerous speed bumps in the area (having already become partially disconnected to lower it)
or hit while the front of the car was close to a kerb

It's due in for a service next month so I'll get our garage to see whether it is the tray or clips that are
damaged, it doesn't appear to be the bumper.

At present the tray is tucked under the bottom of the bumper and appears content to stay in place in
the short term

Hi Chris1972,

I had the same issues a couple of years back. I noticed it was loose and tucked it in. Before I could get the screws and clips in place I drove on the motorway and it worked loose:eek: The noise was like a flat tyre!! I stopped immediately before it ripped itself off, but it was quite frightening at high speed. Just a word to the wise, mine looked well attached, but the screws are really needed if you do lots of motorway driving. You can pick them up from Halfords in a little pack of mixed size clips and screws (~£3). I replaced a few others while I was at it. You may also need to buy some big washers if the hole through the undertray is larger than the screw head (sorry if that sounds obvious!).

Cheers,

David
