Front Headlight Steaming Up - After Dealer Install!

Hi all!

After paying £28 for a bulb to be installed by Audi, I have noticed now that the front headlamp steams up when the car was washed.

What should I do to resolve this? I have called Audi up and will take the car back to them this week. What should I expect to be done? (ps, still under warranty)

well TBH i would sort it myself, if you have a garage you could do it.

Some moisture has probably got into the unit while the bulb was changed, it needs to have the headlight cover off and allow it to completely dry out, then replace the cover correctly to create a seal. Thats probably Audi might do. A failure to put the cover back on ciorrectly can cause this.

Headlamps are usually dried out by using a hair dryer! Even by the dealers. Lamps need to "breath" due to the change in temperatures from being in use. The air expansion is so great that without free airflow the lamp could break. Clear lenses only highlight this problem. Condensation builds up in areas inside the lamp that don't get warm enough and cannot evaporate away easily, especially in cold or very wet weather when there will be generally a greater build up of moisture. It's not only the A2 affected, virtually every lamp has the same problem.

That all makes sense.

but i only had one lamp unit steam up once. and in 4 years it should do it all the time, if it wasn't due to anything other that the seal pinched somewhere, or the cover not on correctly. In 4 years if it was standard on clear lenses i would see it every few days...

my 03 lights steam up after a rainy day then clear again after use quite quickly, so i don't worry too much.
