Front strut/ spring removal

For the moment I have put in an order with AutoDoc for the Meyle Top Strut and mount kit x2. Including delivery £59.11.

The Auto Doc parts came from Germany on Thursday. A two day delay due to the mild snowy conditions here in the UK.

All the parts ordered were present and correct. All I have to do now is fit them.

I’ll do my best to document, with pictures.

Struts and bearings replaced including the Drop links. The drop links were not damaged but in order to get the suspension strut out the nuts on the drop link were seized so I ended up replacing the Audi ones with TRW. The TRW were the only ones nearby.

I still have a creaking noise so will have to replace the springs and shocks, I am going for Monroe.

I had a creaking noise for years and removed and reassembled my struts several times. In the end it was the anti roll bar bushes. Squirt some rubber lube on them and if things improve replace the bushes.

I found that when I did my ti the drive shaft would not allow the hub assembly to drop low enough so I ended up compressing spring in situ to allow enough movement to get out of hub assembly.
I experienced the same thing, on the right hand side! I had to compress the spring/strut by use of a jack to elevate the strut assemble enough to get it out of the hub assembly. Tried to compress the spring by use of spring tensioners, but was not successful.
Same procedure in the opposite order to get the strut assembly back into the hub.
The left-hand side was straight forward as described several places on the forum.
I think that the difficulties on the right-hand side isn't clearly described by anyone...as far as I can see.

Yes they are the same for sport and SE models. The bump stops, shock absorbers and springs differ.

Done the rh one, but the left hand wishbone doesn't drop away like the rh. So damper won't drop out the carrier. Never seen this on VAG cars before.

Update .

Did what others suggest, but jacked the strut up and fitted the compressors while wound up. Not ideal but allowed the damper to compress and come out. Both upper bearings fell to bits on removal. Least it's done. For now....
