Can anyone help me out here.
I own an A2 1.4 petrol </u>on a 52 plate.
the car has done 34k miles. the problem is that over the last 1.5k miles i have been hearing this clonking noise to the right hand side of the drivers side, and i have a good reason to belive that the suspension mounts have gone. I have had this problem with previous vw golfs with very high mileage. the irony is that the car is just 1 year and 2 months old.

Do i pay for the replacement of this item or can it be done under the warrantee. I know this item cost peanuts but is a bit of a job to do and Audi (docklands) might charge me an arm-and-leg or maybe a pound of flesh to rectify this problem.

Please has anyone had this problem and what was the outcome of your visit to the dealer.

Hi demo
You are not alone! Mine (00yr) has done it on both sides virtually from new. But it only happens if at least two of the following variables have occured: extreme lock, full suspension travel, or being parked for a while. I think the spring coils get wound up a bit when turned, then let go with a twang at the top when some weight is released. A bit crap I know!

I was told by a very helpful mechanic in Audi Plymouth that there are Audi mod kits for this "top strut" problem, and for "driveshaft backlash" problem, which affects early &lt;2001 cars (including mine).

Although out of warranty (German import) Audi did my driveshafts under a "goodwill gesture" program, where you pay a percentage based on mileage covered. If you have a 3yr warranty then everything ought to be covered.

I have yet to get my struts looked at so I cant give you a definitive answer, but get your dealer to check whether your strut problem is listed in the Audi modifications manual.

Certainly it was only due to information on this forum that I pestered my local dealer (Southampton) about checking for Audi driveshaft mods. otherwise they knew nothing about that!! Reassuring isnt it!

Thanks a million Keith

I just gave the car to audi @ Docklands this morning they said hopefully the work should be covered under the remaining warrantee.

I'll keep you posted later on today about the out come.

P.S. Do you know where i can obtain an engine manual (Audi A2 1.4 petrol) on with detailed files and diagrames/pictures on the engine setup and the gearbox. DONT ASK ME WHY as im used to older cars such as golfs which are easier to work on. This car is not for the regular D.I.Y person.

Audi Dealers just called me and said the clonking noise on the right hand side of the car was due to a slpit on the anti roll bar bushes.
They can replace it under the warrantee but the part concerned is out of stock so they will have to order it. Hence an appointment has been booked in for next week friday.

Audi never lived up to my expectations. Maybe its because its a warrantee job and there is nothing in there for tem interms of profit. On the appointment date that was allocated audi told me the part had not arrived yet. maybe if i had offered money upfront they might have done the job. its only just a slpit anti-roll bar for heavens sake.
