Fuel Consumption in Display without dis

This is a nice one, I just registered to share with the English speaking A2 community!

Coding with vcds:

If you put a 5 in the last place of

Instrument cluster: 17
Coding: 07

You will get a fuel consumption in display in addition to temperature!

Oh that is fabulous!!! That will make a real difference, pretty much all I use DIS for! Thank you for sharing!!

Yes this was discussed on A2OC about six to eight months ago and I enabled it on my tdi
However this should be considered as a tdi modification as there are adverse affect on the petrol models. Eg no EPC warning light and likely other issue on the petrol models
This re coding is setting the instrument cluster to be for a 1.2 tdi and as such any petrol specifics that the instrument cluster would deal with will be lost
There other limitations in that the fuel display is instantaneous only and without disconnecting the battery there is no other way to reset it. When you first ignition on after the yellow warning has cleared you will have your average mpg from when ever the battery was last removed. This is the bit that there is no way to reset
Even with these limitations I still find it useful after some 8 months of use
Love the 40 mph and 104 mpg on a flat road in long fifth. Still not bettered my many modern cars
Cheers. Paul

Yes, but it's not from the last battery disconnect. It's also reported to be the last 1000km. Nobody knows exactly right know...

Epc lamp is off, that's true.

While driving you get the real time consumption all 30m updated. Very helpfull.

I drive the 1,4 benzin, absolutely no problems!

Paul had this enabled on the 1.4 AUA I bought off him.
I kept getting random errors (low oil warning when it wasn't was a favourite) as well as the no EPC on start up.
Switched "mini DIS" off, no more errors. May be a coincidence, but I've had no errors since.

In German forum many people drive with this mod (like I do), no problems like this reported.

By the way there is no difference in the oli sensor between all models of the same age, so I think the error didn't show up because of this mod.

has anyone found a way to reset it other than removing the battery connection ?

No, just upgrading to dis with high line instrunent cluster

A2 3l cannot reset this too. It's the overall average consumption of the car while standing after ignition

I had this set on my AUA and I also got low oil level warning as well as no EPC .
The oil sensor may be the same but the parameter adaption must be different in the dash. Found it practically useless as being a instantaneous reading was up and down like a fiddler's elbow.

So not a coincidence then!

As others have said, this mod is for TDIs only. With the petrol-powered A2s, it creates a conflict in the instrument cluster. Some warnings appear when they shouldn't, and other warnings aren't reported correctly.

Cheers,

Tom
