Fuel Economy???

Just saw this for sale on ebay with the following description http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2001-AUDI-A2-...ms=65:7|66:2|39:1|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50

It contains the following statement:
One of the main aspects of this car is the complete aluminium space frame, so no corrosion worries, and the fantastic fuel economy. Most of the miles my wife has done is on motorways and as an example, she drove from Cheshire to Cologne in Germany and it cost her £23 in fuel. Thats fantastic fuel economy.
Now I gotta get me one as good as that!! I figure thats about 550 miles and £23 worth of fuel is roughly 23 litres but give or take fluctuations in fuel costs make it 25 litres for arguements sake. Thats about 5 gallons and even going off Audis claims of 65mpg thats only 325 miles and if you take out 20 odd miles for the channel thats still 200 odd miles short...
I reckon I can do 350 miles driving like a normal person on a full tank and did 335 miles on Sunday from Newquay in Cornwall to Manchester and was on red and "bleeping" when I got home. Now at this particular moment in time I've had 4 cans of Stella and wasn't massively into maths at school so I could be wrong but surely £23 worth of juice wont take you that far??
All professors please take the stand and answers on a postcard please... oh and should I buy it cos its really quite nice!!

Si:)

even winding the years back to 80p a liter, £23 would be 87mpg to make 550 miles :)

Unless the diesel on the continent is significantly cheaper!

Agree, this is stretching the truth and it might be an interest to Trading Standards, or the advertising watchdog.

The seller does say though that it only cost her £23 in fuel, so perhaps they are not taking into account what fuel was already in the tank?

Cheers,

Mike

just had a thought... maybe she drove to Liverpool airport and caught a Ryan Air flight to Cologne and the £23 was the fuel duty....

even a 1.2 TDi (and its not) at 100km / 3l = 33km / l = 20.625 ml / l
£23 at £1.05 / l = 21.9 l = 451 mls

Funny "Genuine reason for sale". Must be a small garage

Edit: 2nd try
Border of Cheshire (SW of Crewe) to Harwich = 203 miles (shortest distance)
Hook of Holland to Cologne = 271 miles (shortest distance)
Total 474 miles (less if there is a larger Cologne commune)
Maybe possible in a stripped down 1.2l TDi in bare feet ;-)
