Fuel Filler Flap Will Not Release

I have just bought an A2 TDIse 2002. I have a problem opening the fuel filler flap. I persume I am doing it correctly: I persume you simply press the filler flap release switch on the pillar and the flap should open whether the ignition is on or not?
The only way I can get the flap open is by operating the central locking open button on my key fob whilst pressing the flap release switch at the same time.
Any ideas anybody?

Thanks!

As the switch is just an actuator, it sounds like you need a new one.

Simply pressing harder doesn't make more elecrtic go to the motor! You need your contacts cleaning!

Cheers,
Mike

The switch works every time, as long as I operate it the same time as operating the central locking with my keyfob, so I am pretty sure that the switch is ok.
