Fuel Filler Flap Won't Release

Excuse my ignorance but could somebody please help me with a query or two?
First, how do you NORMALLY open the fuel filler flap? I obviously know that you press the switch on the B pillar, but is there a correct procedure, i.e do you have to have the ignition on, or have the key in the ignition or just stand on one leg shouting at it?
The reason I ask is, my filler flap will not open when I simply press the release switch. The only way that I can open the flap is by pressing the "open" button on my key fob at the same time as I press the filler release switch. This will work every time that I do it this way. As a result of this I know that my release switch is working so I wondered whether the "fault??" was related to the central locking? Any advice / info would be greatly appreciated!

i Think you should continue with the "standing on one leg shouting at it" i find this helps with lots of things A2's, cats, Post Office counter staff, however if this fails to solve it then pop the car to Audi if its under warranty as i think it should open even without the key in the ignition. The only time it doesn't open is when the door is closed (i think)

that sounds about right Emm the filler flap on my A2 opens just by pressing the button whether I am on one leg or two I am normlly sitting down with the door open. Not sure if it opens with the drivers door closed as i find it very difficult to press the switch when the door is not open!!!!

Hi Paul

No Problem - I just wanted all the info together for future reference.
Out of interest I checked my car and the filler cap opens at the first press of the button on the door pillar regardless of the ignition key being in the steering lock or not.
There is obviously a minor glitch with your car and as Skipton suggested it's most likely to be a faulty button on the door pillar or the related wiring.

Hi Spike

Thanks for the reply. I will check out the switch, but unless it is a 3-way switch I suspect that when I test the switch it will probably be okay. As I said, if I operate the central locking button on my keyfob AND press the filler release switch at the same time, it will operate every time, so the switch is doing something. I will have a go and let you know!

Cheers Paul
