My wife's A2 (1.4 TDI 75 PS) was making a noise underneath, that I traced to the heat shield that covers the fuel filter. I changed the fuel filter last year, and remember at the time that the thin alloy cover was loose (retaining studs on the chassis had corroded). Cut a long story short, the noise has stopped, as the guard is now missing!
Is this essential to replace? I understand it's there to shield the fuel filter from the exhaust and primarily that's it's main use, but it will also get road salt and general debris thrown at it, now it's missing. No doubt Audi charge an arm and a leg to replace? Would a breakers yard be a good place to look for one?
