Fuel Gauge Stuck On Full

Hello A2ers, the fuel gauge is stuck on full.

The mechanic said I would need a new fuel gauge. I think he means the one that sits in the Petrol tank.

Just wondering if there were any tips or tricks before buying a new one?

Filled the tank so it’s 3/4ths full. I don’t drive many miles at the moment.

Awaiting a response from Audi as to whether they have one. Any links for parts appreciated if you have them.

Just ordered some new 4D Plates and a Audi S line surround plate.

Thank you.

It could be a faulty fuel gauge resistor constantly sending full power to the gauge. I would wait a while on buying a new part and keep topping up the tank so that it's full. Occasionally rock the car from side to side in order to try and dislodge/move the sender rod in the fuel tank.

Thank you so much for your reply. This is THE best car club ever!

This is the second full top up since I noticed a problem. From what I remember the fuel gauge does move eventually when near about 1.7/4ths full or near abouts.

Will try the rocking suggestion.

Can you have the car scanned with VCDS. Under "instruments" one of the blocks shows remaining fuel in litres. May be from the sender or the gauge that I am not sure. Worth having a look at the electrical connections on the top of the fuel tank in case they are corroded, loose or damaged.

Just a thought, is the petrol fuel gauge gubbins in the tank the same as in the TDI?
Depending on the size of the tank of course.

Fuels like VPower claim to clean things up, so I can't see why it would not work but can only say the good diesel seemed to unstick the sender in my TDI.

Mechanic said I need a fuel gauge sender unit. It has moved slightly since.
