Hello Ladies and Gentlemen!

I just bought my first A2. It's a 1.4 Petrol 2001 (actually made in sept 2000), Denim Blue. It has got 157 000 km (97 555 miles) on the meter and a towing hook (is that the english word? for putting a trailer behind the car). I'm not currently driving it since I'm about to sell my 2004 Passat 130HK TDi first. I love my Passat but the tax is very expensive, it hasn't got a particle filter. Swedish car tax takes the environment seriously.

Of course I will make some modifications to the new A2. First mission is fitting cruise control. Haven't ordered the lever yet, but a VagTacho cable is on it's way from China. Also browsing the forums for fun stuff to do. I read something somewhere about the washer spray nozzles.
I'm also looking for a good media/navigation solution. The easy one is to fit a single din radio with bluetooth. I love riding with Waze and listening to podcasts. Not sure how this will work when calls are incoming. I do want some kind of handsfree. Another solution is modifying my dash to take a double din radio and getting one of those android radios from eBay or Dealextreme.
HID/Xenon lights is another fun thing.
My greatest wish would be to have high beam assist in the car. But that seems impossible since I can't find any general aftermarket hardware.
If you have other suggestions of what to do with the 2001 A2. Please post!

If I understand it correctly, my car hasn't got a CAN bus, so no stuff that involves that can be retrofitted. Is it mainly the DIS system that needs CAN?

Is there anything else in particular that I need to know about the 2001 A2?

Hi, I would like to welcome you, a fellow county man, to this great club. You will find a lot of friendly ppl with a wealth of knowledge about the a2. I got my a2 recently so I dont think I can be much of a help to you, but Im sure this thread will be flooded soon.

You don't have CAN, you have K-Line bus..... too old car. It is possible to retrofit DIS to K-Line, but I can't remember how. Need to look on the German forum. High beam assist would be cool, I'd agree, but I haven't seen any hardware for this at all. Waeco is about the only company I'd expect to be producing this. I'd also drop two Comet Xenons (or Biltema's new 9") on the front to beef up the fjärrljus.

Welcome! I am also from Gothenburg and welcome tou to both the club and a great ownership of a A2. Awesome cars. There are plenty more mods that can be done to the A2. The list can become very long easily.
