Gaiter Trouble

The only way to remove the old one is to cut the crimp band around the gearstick itself.

Basically, you can't remove it in a reversible fashion, you need a new crimp band as well.

WAS : A2 TDI SE 2001 Ebony Black Pearl (The Little Tank!)
NOW : A2 TDi 90 Sport, OpenSky, winter pack, ISOfix, all-round fogs, climate control, all-round electric windows, Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB54, genuine HID xenons and red leather! Not to mention CCC Tech chipping (118bhp), K&N air filter, all round tinting, all-black headlining and retro-fitted cruise control and GALA.(The NEW Tank).

I found a cable tie worked fine when refitting to the gearstick.

Don't drink drive! Not only is it socially unaceptable, it also harms A2's.
Was a Merlot Red 1.4SE petrol originally.
Now an Ebony Black 1.4SE petrol with Red Leather, CC, Symphony + all the previous options we had.

Silas,
That was my gaiter by the way. If I had known you were on the forum, I would have given you a discount! Too late now, cos Ive spent it !
I had a quick look when I first purchased it and I was struggling to remove the old one. Never actually got round to sorting it before the A2 went up for sale.

A2 Gone but not forgotten !!!!!!!

Hey Scott!

What a small world it is.lol
I Managed to get the old gaiter off and fit the new one withouth breaking or ripping anything so well pleased with myself.

The only reason i went on the lookout on ebay for Audi rings and stuff is cos i saw a pic of ur car on this site and thought it looked cool.
It's weird that it turned out to be u that i was buying from.

Your (old) car looked real nice m8, what type of alloys did u have on it?

silas,
I was put in touch with a chap from essex who has his own web site and also deals on Ebay. Got a really good deal from him as I was the first to use this design of alloy. My old car is now proudly displayed on his web site. They are manufactured as copies and he brings them in from abroud. They are based on a TT design.
The alloy was called 'Speed 6'
