Gas Pedal Tuning Kit?

Does anyone use one of these and what good does it do?

Hi

These kits don't affect power or the engine in any way.
It just speed up the response of the accelerator pedal.
It does make the car feel quicker, in effect the kit is shortening the time taken for the engine to respond to the throttle position.

I must admit that I was tempted to try one of these.
The one thing I like is the ability to set it to different responses or even switch it off and make it act as standard.

I have heard of people years ago just fitting lighter throttle springs in their (pre-electronic) cars to give a more responsive feel.
I also heard of people putting on firmer springs to gain economy by slowing down the acceleration rate.
It is surprising just how much difference the spring rating makes, a loose spring can make the car feel very sporty and a stiff spring can make the car feel sluggish (and improve economy)

That is how this kit works to, but not via a spring, just by changing the electronic signals.
So the theory is fine and I am pretty sure that these things do make the car feel as if it is driving differently.

I still might try one just to see if I like it.

The same can be done when remapping the car--although not adjustable. I want stealth to change the response on the storm as vonns tdi requires less opening to get boost. Shame the part isn't cheeper. cheers mike

I stumbled upon it while seraching for some air filters. Not sure it's worth the price, but it's still a fraction of what guys charge here for chip tuning or remapping. I don't need more power from my A2, maybe just a little smoother acceleration, if this gadget can do that. Maybe some A2 owners in Germany have tried this?

I am not sure it would give you smoother acceleration at all, it just makes the pedal response quicker / slower , not smoother.

If your acceleration is not smooth then you may have a problem?
The pedal electronics have been known to play up (quite rare but it happens) and this can sometimes affect the smoothness of the acceleration. If that is the case this kit would not make any difference at all (it would still be getting bad signals from the pedal)
There could also be other causes.

Is your acceleration rough then, or hesitant etc.?

I would describe it as a hesitant.
This 'hesitation' happens at about 3200-3400 rpms, but not at all gear.
I have noticed this often when it's in the 4th gear and I push it from 3000 to 4000 rpms and up. The rpms go up pretty fast from 3000 but they 'pause' for a second or two, as I said, before go up to 4000 and up.
When in 3rd or 5th, this doesn't happen often.

Does this make any sense? Has it something to do with this stratified thing? Or maybe I just have to accept that this engine is not the same as the my other 1.6?

Cheers,

A kit like this would not help with those symptoms.
Also, it doesn't sound like a problem with the throttle operation / electronics (or it would affect all gears at the same throttle opening).

I would suggest that you get the car scanned for error codes.

Has the car been well maintained and are the filters and plugs etc in good condition?

It hasn't been well maintained before I got it. It runs better than it has ever done, I believe, but there are things I'd rather have fixed. Like the damn left mirror heating :)

It has all new filters, plugs, ignition coils, new throttle, bunch of sensors of importance, complete new exhaust...
I have so many A2 parts in reserve, I don't remember I have had that for any car, except for my '73 VW 1300S :)

I have scanned it a month ago, everything was fine.
Well, I guess I have to scan it again! Or push it hard first and wait for the engine light to flash, which won't happen I believe.

Thanks, Steve! The Gas Pedal option can wait!

Hi Darko its a bit late in the rev range for the changeover in injection timings 2800-3000 i would say its possibly a slow acting inlet manifold --- i would recommend you run some DIP3 spray through it to clean it out. cheers mike

Thanks, Mike!
Now I have to search for the DIP3, I have no idea if I can find it here.

Hi Darko,

I used a Wynns product to clean the intake of the FSI recently, as preventative maintenance for the manifold flaps sticking. Unfortunately, I could not find the DIP3 products as Mike suggests, and I think they may have been discontinued. Instead, I used the Wynns petrol EGR cleaner spray which seems to be the same product. I have attached a link, here. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wynns-29881-Petrol-EGR-Cleaner/dp/B00BKC9KU8/

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Matt.

Thanks, Matt! I'll put it on my order list!

Just had a 140 km journey, no hasitations, nothing. Pushed it hard through a 3.5 km uphilll tunnel, couldn't notice any hasitation.
We'll see.

Cheers,
Darko
