Gear change issues 2003 TDi 150K miles

Sorry @Doug S I can’t remember but it was not expensive. I returned it for credit against the tower.
I think the problem with the water chute has more to do with taking the bonnet off and putting it down on a flat surface. The chutes are old stiff and get distorted. Then they miss the catcher and wet the tower.[/QUOTE/]
Well, I took the tower off and found a horrible mess, much like yours, spring broken, Bearing race totally gone. When I took the swing arm of the tower it was clear the shaft sticking out the end was ‘listing’ towards the passenger side and loads of movement in it. And the colour of the oil beggars belief looking into gearbox. I have get new oil and gearbox flush treatment coming. All back together now for a few more days as it’s my daily drive.

I just started getting trouble shifting gears 1st and reverse mostly. Could this be due to water damage like in this thread?

Those two gears have never caused me any difficulties. Try bleeding your clutch slave cylinder and adjusting the change cables before fearing the worst.
