Gear Changing Issues

Nick Golland.Had gearbox gear troubles at around 200 k .Had new gear selector fitted and new oil and worked like new.
Evening Nick,

I too can testify to the brilliant gear change after a new gear selector tower with fresh oil in your old A2, now my wife’s A2 (AKA Project 250).

It really is the smoothest gear change I’ve ever felt in an A2!

Kind regards,

Tom

Any idea the cost of this selector tower and gear box oil change thanks michael

I had the same issue with third gear on my A2 petrol with 250 000 km (156k miles). It is probably synchro problem. I changed the gear box oil to Redline MT90. Gearchange is much better now. Almost perfect. The old oil was like water when I drained it. According to service recommendations you should not change gear box oil at all. I would say it should be the first thing to try if gear change is an issue.

Complete gear selector tower is £180 as Kleynie says, but, you can change the bearings and oil seal for £16 and transform your gear change...gear oil is about £20 for two litres, and marvel at the state of the stuff that comes out of the box!!! Usually a coffee coloured beige and about 1ltr more that you will be putting back in!
