Gear selector bushings

Dieselgeek sells bushings for various VW gearboxes. One of the kits they are selling is as below:

http://www.dieselgeek.com/Deluxe_MK4_Shifter_bushing_kit_p/shift-mk4dlx.htm

1. Has anybody tried these?

2. If so, has the shifting improved considerably?

3. Are there alternative solutions within the UK? I don't think dealers sell just the bushes.

Cheers.:D

This looks great.

If it fits the A2 (As it looks like it would) I would buy one.!!!!!!

Might be worth a bulk buy to save on shipping costs and try for a discount for a larger order?

Dieselgeek website is down at the moment i think so I cant compare but I had the shifter tower ball sleeve, oil seal and some bushes replaced last week. It made a huge difference. One hour labour and about €20 in parts from VW dealer. This was for a 2002TDI with AMF engine.

This is their kit, a tad expensive compared to your £20 parts from VW???

Those parts you listed are within or about the gear selector tower. I had very similar work done on mine a few months ago and shifting improved dramatically. But, these parts from Dieselgeek are between the shift lever and the selector tower. Don't think any dealers sell just the bushes (haven't seen their part numbers anywhere on parts list).

Those with A2s that are going for performance driving (and with a few bob) might like the short shifter kit, sold by the same company.
It looks like it fits the A2 (but you would need to find out for sure).

It has a picture of the standard shift mechanism on the gearbox end and that looks to be identical to the A2!!

A (proud) new A2 owner reporting in. I too have quite a bit of annoying play in the shifter, something that I want to fix.

Has anyone installed Dieselgeek's kit? Is it a direct fit for the five speed in A2? Anything else I can do? Thanks!

I've just taken delivery of these bits (all from Dieselgeek) so I'll report back as to how I get on. I'm fitting them as part of my JDD 'box conversion. One word of caution - by the time you've paid for credit card non-sterling transaction fees and the customs charges, this piddly little bag of (mainly) plastic bits doesn't come cheap. I think it's something North of £100.

One question: On the A2, what's the easiest way to get at the housing at the base of the gearstick, as shown in the YouTube video above? I've seen threads on the Golf that show a plate being removed from the floor pan and access from under the car, but there's nothing like that on the A2, as far as I can see. I need to get inside it to fit some of the Dieselgeek bushes

I'm going to have a go at replacing the bearing in the shifter tower as the one in my tdi is very loose and obviously worn. I'll update to let you know how it goes, I ordered the bottom 3 parts in this list from Audi today, £12. Could be a cheap fix to those notchy gears....well see

Going to keep and eye on this one nod, I look forward to seeing how you get on. A chap up here did it to his A2, said it was straight forward, only for his wife to park their A2 in the front of a van on a country road the following week, but during that week he said it was 100% better

Had this done by womautomotive a couple of years ago.
My gear change is smooth
