Gearbox oil change on a ramp

Hi all, quick question.
Gearbox oil had been changed on a ramp, I'd say around 20° angle. I'd stopped when the oil was leaking out the fill hole.
I assume it'd be done on flat level, so how much does it change on the amount? Should I add more or less?
 
Hi

In theory you will have marginally under filled. When I did my gearbox oil I dropped it back down to level once drained and filled via the reverse gear switch.

I was kind of thinking the same, but better check it. How much is too much, like a full cup of 200ml, or half a cup should be enough? Thanks

Hi

From memory I think the correct amount is 1.9l of oil for the AUA gearbox. Without measuring how much went in it’s difficult to know how much the shortfall might be. I used a syringe to measure the right amount in. My best guess is you could easily be 100ml in shortfall. Most likely it’s better to be slightly under filled than over filled. Have you any thoughts on how much went in?

I think it was around 1.7 maybe, so 100ml sounds about right. I'll try to syringe that amount in through the reverse light switch. Thanks

I've already done that, but I've only got ramps, which adds 15-20° tilt, so it won't be exactly leveled. I'll add a bit more and that should be enough. Cheers
 
The reason I'm wondering, it may be under filled, because there's bit of whining noise when the clutch isn't depressed, which increases with engine speed.

I think it's the Input Shaft Bearing, and perhaps there isn't enough oil in the gear box to lubricate it? Thanks
 
Or 5th gear doesn't get any oil. I would say it is better to be little bit overfilled as excessive oil will probably find its way out. Or maybe not but you will get all the parts libricated and it may create little bit "friction" because of the increased fording.

For example some gearboxes in GM/Opels were prone to fail unless you purposely overfilled them with ca 0,2l of oil.

The issue is I haven't got a lift to keep it leveled, and on the ramp the front goes up a bit, so I gotta guess how much more I'm supposed to add. I'll empty it and see how much comes out. Cheers
