Glue for Votex kit

Okay... maybe I’m being silly... but why does the Votex kit need glue?

I’ve stuck on the front and back so far and they stay in place even without the screws... of which there are many!

The gaps look fine and they are light!

Unless the sides are completely different it looks like the screws will be PLENTY to hold the kit on with the benefit of being easier to remove should I need to.

I’ve got two tubes of Tiger Seal here but do I really need them?

Thoughts?

I don't know anything about Votex kits, but in general I guess you need to be sure they'll not fly off in the event of being caught on something. I.e. you have two sets of potential load: one, where you just want the thing to stay on during normal use, the other where it can withstand a few multiples of the above and still stay on the car (ideally without, say, one half coming loose and flailing around).

Also, at the very least you might not want grot getting behind them and gradually filling up any voids with salty muck. An alternative would be a double sided foam tape: gives reasonable security, seals against muck but very little danger of peeling paint or other removal issues in the future.

Thanks Rusty.

They look pretty awesome so I don’t think I’ll be wanting them off and I assume they don’t block access to anything for repair and so on... hopefully.

Yes the side skirts need adhesive along the top edge and then screws where they join the inner wheel arch. You’ll end up with a gap otherwise ?

It’s just the 2 screws underneath then. Depending on how much the skirts have flexed over the years, you may find that they appear to be bowing down and so to get them level a few more self tappers into the skirt will sort it.

It’s about time you did this ?

Half done!

Steve, totally on the money as always. Flex in the side skirts so I’ll be filling and glueing and wedging in place a bit over the next few days until they conform.

It is indeed about time...

Hi buddy.

I won it when Steve Birchall had an A2OC Votex competition!

I won the draw which let me purchase it for only £200 and various people helped to transport it from the south of England - Bargepower and Depronman are legends!

It was... maybe two or three years ago... it has been a while!

Ha ha eventually the votex sees the light of day !!!
I was starting to think that mrs pinky had claimed it as a piece of modern art and it was adorning the walls of Pinky towers
Although personally I’m not a great fan of votex It’s nice to see it in the car
I only played ‘storage man’ for a few months as it made its way up north - thank for the tee shirt

That does look very good indeed!

And I noticed you've performed a sneaky electric conversion in as well: very impressive work :D

Glued and screwed! There will be a need for some filler and paint (to be fair, the whole car needs a paint) but it’s on and the car is driveable!

Also fitted my A2OC number plate holders.

Finally it makes an appearance on the car
This must go down as the longest time to fit a votex in A2 history

Does look good though and I’m not a votex lover

Have you sent Steve B a picture

I think it's works very well on the silver: doesn't look too heavy. Nice wheels as well: what are they?

Ronal 16" from an Audi TT Mk1 - the ones that TT owners look down on as 'poverty spec'. They fill out the A2's arches a lot better than the standard 16" SE wheels, ride better than the 17" Sport ones and, unlike those, don't buckle easily either. They do tend to suffer from corroded inner beads though. I believe Alex (Pinky) got the tyres off that set and refurbished them himself.

Ahh, thank you: I really like those

Thanks People.

I wouldn’t know how to contact Steve B. I thought he didn’t come on here anymore?

TT Ronal indeed. With 205/50 R16 tyres. I bought them from a member on here but they did have a bit of corrosion also the slowest DIY refurb in the history of the club.
