Good Morning, everyone, I'm new

Hello folks,

:)

I am a new A2 owner, as of Sunday 20th May. I bought my 1.4 tdi in Carcraft and guess what - it came with a rattle that I didn't notice when test driving her! So she's in the local garage this morning, as under a 2 year guarantee. We think it's the anti-roll bar bushes or such like.

I've fallen in love with her already, so hoping that Carcraft are going to pay up or she's going to go back as I paid slightly over-the-odds for her in the first place!

I'm hoping and looking forward to being part of your club.

I had the stabiliser bar on mine replaced recently. I was getting a clunk going over speed bumps.

I thought I was paying above the odds for my A2 when compared with other cars but now I reckon I got a complete bargain.

You will not regret it.

Welcome, hope you enjoy your car as much as I do, just done a 300 mile round trip this morning and averaged 65mpg!

Hiya - looks like you live right near my little sis - shes up the road in Porth +++

Some great cider round you :D

No way! It's such a small world! :) Has she got an A2 as well? I've seen a few around here!

Well I picked the car up this afternoon and the gents in the garage found nothing wrong, couldn't find what the rattle was, but definately not suspension. They practically MOT'd her and checked her over thoroughly for me for free, love them. They wouldn't take a penny off me. I wouldn't be surprised if the missing water cap has been dropped into the engine bay and is floating around somewhere. They gave me the all-clear, said it was 100% safe to drive, so it looks like she's going to stay with me - yippee! :D

My first question is, how come insurance companies don't list a 1390cc TDi? All they've got are 1420cc. My V5 definately says 1390cc. It doesn't give me any letters like SE or whatever, so I'm in the dark as to what I've got.

Also, got no idea what the colour is called (but that's a girl thing I'm sure). :D It's bright scarlet red.

Welcome to the fold!

The answer to your first question:

The DVLA tends to mark down most diesel A2s as 1390cc, whereas in fact, they are ALL 1422cc.

I've even pointed this out to them on 2 occasions, when changing number plates, hoping to get an accurate V5 back, but each time, they ignore me.

So, you don't have a 1390CC car, no matter what the logbook says, you have a 1422cc car. There's no penalty to this either, for example in pre-March 2001 registered cars, where there is a cut-off point for tax purposes, as it is 1549cc.

The answer to your second, semi-question is that it is 'Brilliant Red' - one of the no-cost colour options, along with 'Brilliant Blue', 'Brilliant Black' and latterly, 'Polar White'.

Enjoy,

Cheers,

Mike

I queried this with my dealer, the washer fluid filler doesn't have a lid apparently!!

That's right - the 'service module' filler does not have a cap - only the oil filler does.

Cheers,

Mike

It's a great design. Closing it over makes a seal above it and just in case, there is a filter for any unwanted bits and pieces getting in there.

Thanks very much for the info Mike (Skipton01) :)

Bizarre but kind of quirky-cool that it doesn't need one! Goodness knows what the rattle is then.

But I'll take the garage's word for it that it's safe to drive. :D

Sounds like front Driver's side, sounds exactly like a piece of plastic rattling about. And no, it isn't something in the door pocket :D

We might (try to  ) get the bonnet off and have a quick scan to see if anything's snapped off.

The bonnet is very easy to take off. first open the grill, then undo the 2 grey sprung knobs Then all you need to do is slide and lift.

It's my bet that the bonnet bracket is a little loose and that is allowing a vibration.

If it comes on at about 20-30mph and then goes about 50-60mph, this'll be the culprit!

 No, it's kind of constant.
