Goodbye from MPG Lover

The opportunity to buy a seriously rare 1st generation 2005 Honda Insight, my first automotive love, came by and I could not refuse.

Sadly this meant that I had to sell my A2 and before I could even advertise the car, I did a deal today with Mustang-owner (Jeff) who had his A2 written off last month.

Jeff is a very pleasant chap and also an A2OC member, who will give my A2 a good home. He already has plans to install his (rescued) auto-dimming mirror and heated side mirrors plus more.

I have enjoyed my time on this Forum and don't intend to disappear entirely; no doubt I will still be calling on Mike's skills in the future. Thanks to all and keep on rolling!

I've said it in private, and I'll say it here Christian - you're a great bloke who has contributed a great deal over the years and you'll be sadly missed, unless you pop back in from time to time.

As Murdo might say, Haste ye back!

Cheers,

Mike

Best wishes for the new car. I'd be interested to hear on your thoughts on it from time to time.

You will be missed greatly!! i wish you many mile of happy motoring in your insight, which by the way is a great car and i hope you come back and visit from time to time

Best of luck
Chris

I can second that! Christian IS a great Bloke, He was my very first contact I met in person from the forum.

Perhaps you could tell us all about the new car and the Insight in general then Pal?

I hope you enjoy your new car as much, and you don't become a stranger here.

Cheers

Gosh didn't see that coming especially with the recent bodykit fitment!

Hope the Insight lives up to your expectations. Who is going to host the London meets now?!

Christian,

Thank you for your hospitality today. It was great to chat about the Insight as well as the A2.

As expected, the car lived up to my expectations from the first sighting.

My journey home, along the M25, M40 and A361 yielded 60.3 MPG and the iPod interface along with the full Bose sound made the Black Sabbath black box sound great.
The FSD’s & Weitec springs make for a slightly firmer ride than the standard SE suspension, but it rides over speed humps far better than my old one ever did.

I have some plans for the A2 to make it more my own, but, as with my previous A2, it will be done with taste.

Best of British to you & your wife.

Cheers

Jeff

Jeff i am really pleased that you are once again an A2 owner, i was so sad to hear about your last car so i am glad you have got an A2 again and a nice one at that!

Chris

Chris & Sarge...

Thanks very much....I'm very pleased to be back driving something very familiar and sooooooo very nice...

Also a big thanks to Mike (Skipton) for his support during the past 6 weeks and for helping me with this deal.

Cheers

Jeff

Thanks to all for your kind words. It was a shame I didn't have the resources to keep both the A2 and the Honda Insight. I like to think of the Insight as a distant Japanese cousin of the A2 TDI, with similar aluminium construction, 3 cylinders and late 90's technology.

The 1st generation Honda Insight was built for maximum economy and has figures of 83MPG combined and 80g CO2. The Insight weighs about 850kgs and as a result handles in a way similar to a sports car but only has two seats. For everything you could possibly want to know about one and the (semi-extreme) engineering involved, click on the links on this page:

Not sure I could be tempted away by a 2005 insight, maybe the 1998 model

You have got me a bit confused there. I have got the last of the original / first generation Insight's.

The second generation Insight, completely unrelated to the first generation (being a normal steel-bodied hatchback with not very exciting MPG) came out in 2009.
