Got my QT Alloys back from the refurbisher and WOW!

Birchall

Dick Chown Award 2016
He has done a superb job.

Diamond cutting the rims means I now don't have to try and find chrome rings for them.

He also somehow corrected a significant buckle on the outer rim (most buckles seem to happen on the hidden inside rim) this was on the really bad 5th wheel that I told him he could use to experiment with to get the other 4 right. I had expected to "lose" that 5th wheel, but no.

He is supplying the studs for the fake split rim studs, they will then look amazing.

Until I got the car with these on I hadn't realised that they were a genuine option for the A2 and so they really are OEM (or were, because they are now with a diamond polished rim). At first I thought they were Bolleros (also a stunning wheel on an A2)

Looking forward to fitting them back on the Azure FSI with the Votex bodykit on it.

Someone has already requested the spare wheel if it came out OK, it is even better than OK I simply can't tell which was the really "grotty" one of the 5!!

Just look at how bad it was and the creased chrome ring was hiding the buckle!!!

I am WELL CHUFFED !!!

Another rescue car taking shape!!!
The queue for this is not yet open until I can be more specific about the price.

They are going back on this, when it comes out of the paintshop.

I know it was a bit of a concern as to outcome of the rings originally but a good result then Steve :) Well done!

He charges £60 to £65 a wheel, he normally charges extra if there are any significant buckles but he didn't this time>

I need to pay him for the 101 (YES 101) bolt heads for the fake split rim studs. But that is a one off, normally they are not required.

I put that pricing as on the high side but he has done several sets for me and I have been very impressed.

I haven't managed to get to the guy to deal direct (and save some money!) so currently I am taking them to the Universal Tyre place in Staines.

Mind you, they remove the tyres keep them then refit them with new valves and rebalance them when the wheels are done, all included in the price, so that is not bad! (they even repaired one of the tyres that had a nail in it for no extra charge)

Hi Steve,
I've got some wheels that I could fit to my A2. They appear to be genuine split-rims. They are branded "Team Dynamics". The tyres fitted are 225/45 R17's. The distance across the rims seems to be 9"/23 cm. to the outer edge. The look really great, but ARE they suitable? What is the very best tyre to use for maximum comfort?
Others have said this, I know, but may I add that I'm delighted that your still active on this site ..... it just wouldn't be what it is without you!

I don't think you will get 225 tyres to fit in the A2 arch, I had rubbing even from 215 perfectly centred tyres. 9" rims, even if they are the ideal ET will also give you problems (especially the rear ones) so I think that unfortunately they are going to be too wide AND too tall (with those tyres on.

215 45 17 tyres seem to be about as big as you can use, but the tyres will look wrong, they will look stretched (i.e. the rim of the wheel will stick out way past the tyres.

Sorry

Your tyre place sounds superb, the complete opposite to tyre places around here who'll charge you £21 just to fix a puncture.Anything more and you might as well give them cart blanch to your bank account :(

Sorry for the thread swerve Steve. What is tge offset of the wheel you have. I've managed to fit 8.5x18 wheels on mime with 215/35/18 et35. I think if the et on yours is lower and your car isn't lowered you may just squeeze them under with very slight trimming to the black plastic arch liner.

His rims are 9" and 8.5 is pushing it already, 215 35 18s with ET35 rubbed on speed bumps a little on mine.

It just all seems a bit too tight to me and some trimming is almost certainly necessary I believe.

215 45 17s will look very stretched even on 8.5" wheels (That was the size wheel and tyre I had on the 19s on the project and they did look stretched. So to me 9" is too wide for a wheel on the A2.

The tyre stretch would be the issue. I think 9 inches with the right offset would go but the stretch on the tyre woild be dangerous.

For Alloy Wheel Refurbishment I recommend Top Wheels Lancaster.

www.top-wheels.co.uk

Greg only does back to bare metal complete Refurbishments. Including straightening out buckled wheels, diamond cutting. Great bloke as well. Refurbished a Set of 4 A2 SE 16” Wheels for me, and a Set of 4 A6 20” 5 Spoke Rotors. Only thing he does not do is welding repairs to broken wheels i.e. welding missing bits back in but he can send them away to get that done.
