Great Disaster Car

I'm not sure what everyone else thinks but it's been confirmed to me tonight that the A2 is a truly great weather disaster car!

It's not let me down getting through two huge snow storms in two consecutive years in London - whilst I drove straight past others who were stranded (selfish I know!).

And again tonight in the worst rain storms I have ever seen, my A2 got me through the largest 'mini-lakes' in the road with no problems whilst others held back or abandoned their cars.

Anyone else got any interesting tales of A2 heroism to tell?!

When those last snow storms came in the afternoon I was in Portsmouth and left at 5pm to get back to warwickshire. It took 6 1/2 hours but the A2 flew past many a stranded BMW or Lexus, the ESP was fantastic.

yes what are the good points which allow it to get through this all?

Okay, how about this theory:

The ESP on the A2 isn't all that special, but the things that might make it a bit more stable than the other cars you mentioned:
- weight (less)
- narrower tires (by quite a bit, and that IS important to prevent aquaplaning!)
- lower power (so less work to do for the ESP)

And although I have been in situations where the ESP kicked in (i.e. driving rain, deep tracks of trucks filled with water and high speeds), I must say that despite all the techo-support, I dearly miss on feature on the A2, for safety:
WORKING, EFFICIENT WIPERBLADES!

Boy, do I hate that single wiper. At times I'm more guessing where I'm going then actually seeing it...

I guess on the A2, the weight, good tyre grip, damn good brakes, and exhaust positioning allow it to survive all these situations!

Has anyone seen an A2 with a snorkel exhaust, as seen on some Land-Rovers? Surely it’s just a matter of time before bull-bars can be retro-fitted too.

I think it's combination of the weight (less inertia) and the small tiresize (good grip). The ESP can fairly easy pull the ight car back on track. A heavier car would have the tendency to follow it's path according to newton's law and would be harder on get on the right track.

And in heavy rain, the roof sounds just like being in an Anderson shelter! Ah......takes me right back to the war - now that</u> was a disaster!!![3]

I've removed the front interior light and I've stuffed that space and the space above the sunvisors with dampening materials. That makes a difference.
Too bad the microphone for the audi car kit is in the roof, I can't make a phonecall in heavy rain....

That's one reason why my new A2 is having OpenSky - it's worth being without a roof rack just to be able to drive in rain peacfully!
